TSO, have you heard William Shatner's take on singing? There is a very fine line between amusement and revulsion...

Re: Bands I Loathe

Awww, now come on - that's a novelty tune - it's not like when Rick Springfield started his music "career" (remember "Jessie's Girl" and "I Do Everything For You"? I wish I didn't either...), cashing in on his success in General Hospital - and yet claiming it was a legitimate musical endeavour. Shatner's singles were a quick buck-turner, never intended to be a serious musical career, any more than Leonard Nimoy's "Proud Mary" or Richard Harris' version of "MacArthur Park" - and the public knew that.

Come on, let's pick on the real evil in the charts - Jack Johnson, for example; he's the aural equivalent of beige. When the musical revolution comes, he'll be first against the wall.

Spotbowserfido2, I think you'll have a change of heart about nine inch nails if you hear the recent Ghosts albums.
or
are good examples..

I despise a vast amount of music but the following genres about cover it, any form of Christian music, 99.9 percent of country, modern rap and whatever ####ty modern jazz is playing at Borders bookstore. So far as bands... Turn on your local pop radio station and whatever plays first can go in the blank.

Thank you. Nine Inch Nails is much better without vocals. Mr. Reznor's unrelenting angst-driven vocals are unbearable when we have to suffer through them. I have my own cross to bear, too, you know. We all do.

Exactly how I feel, albeit with more gusto than I can generally manage nowadays...

Re: Bands I Loathe

I hadn't seen this thread before and, exploring it, expected to see that people had cited bands I really love. To be sure, I did notice the names of a few bands of whose CDs I own a few (The Grateful Dead, Cream and The Eagles) -- but these are CDs I haven't played for a long time.

It was rather a relief to see no mention of anyone of whom I'm a big fan -- such as We're Got a Fuzzbox and We're Gonna Use It!! (Fuzzbox for short). Perhaps I'm the only person on here who knows Fuzzbox.

Anyway -- I'd like to take this opportunity to add Led Zeppelin to the list of the loathed.

Re: Bands I Loathe

My daughter, her boyfriend, and her best friend, and HER boyfriend listen to The Flaming Lips, Boards of Canada, Black Moth Super Rainbow and several other trendy-indie bands ad infinitum ad nauseum. I admit no exposure to any of teh above prior to my inundation-by-association, but I have grown to view all of teh above with distaste.

To make matters worse, fans of Boards of Canada refer to the band as BOC. Unnacceptable: Blue Oyster Cult is and shall forever be BOC. I hold few things sacred, but BOC is one.

Loathings I developed on my own: Smashing Pumpkins. That guy's whiny voice is the aural equivalent of chomping tinfoil for me. Eminem. I don;t care for his music, and I don't care for his punk (original definition) image. Stain'd. Hate 'em. Can't even vocalize how much. Creed. Thank Yog, they went away.

Odalisque, I have never heard anything by Fuzzbox, but I have heard of 'em. I read an article on them in a dentist waiting room about 20 years ago....

"The scientists of today think deeply instead of clearly. One must be sane to think clearly, but one can think deeply and be quite insane."

-Nikola Tesla, July of 1934

Well, I know that I loathe Celine Dion. I don't think that she is even human.
Mutual hatred to Creed, Candlebox, and John Mayer.

Re: Bands I Loathe

hearing the Band's song the Weight made me cringe sonically at an Irish bar this evening. I got my revenge by playing some great tracks off of the Stooges Fun House.
