Re: The Swan River Press
We're about 25 votes ahead of #3, but anything can still happen. All projects are creeping forward still.
I suspect most of the daily voters have already cast their votes, so right now we need to find new voters. That'll give us the edge! There's 5.5 hours left! (Midnight Irish time is when it ends) Vote for Swan River Press | Arts Grants

Second!
Not bad. I hope it means Brian will get at least something money-wise. |SRP only ended up a few behind "Story.ie" Magazine which professes to be only interested in populist-"non literary" type stories...just saying. I had annoyed everyone in my entire family re: voting. It'll be months before any of them will be on speaking terms with me again... Thanks a bunch, Swan River Press!;)

Re: The Swan River Press
This is the first day in over a month that I haven't woken up to check my votes!
Our final vote is 4432. We're 19 votes from #1! However, we did manage to hold on to #2, for which I'm very grateful to you all! It's been a wonderful campaign and so many people have been supporting SRP in a big way. This means we go on to the next round: We will be judged on merit against 33 other projects in the Arts Category--the top 10%. Winners will be announced the end of September, so I'll keep everyone updated. Stay tuned!! PS: Yes, Story.ie won, more or less at the last minute. That project was run by One Productions. If you google that company, you'll see that they're a marketing agency. Guess who one of their clients is? Just sayin'.

Re: The Swan River Press
Well done Brian!
The die is cast now. Hopefully, it won't be too long before you hear back from the awards team. Fingers crossed! It's a pity you got pipped by story.ie. Looking at their pitch, I'm not sure if they really have a robust business model to become self-sustaining in the long term. 'Non-literary' writing sounds like a recipe for mediocrity to me and you can find plenty of that sort of thing already in places like Ireland's Own. I see that they want to publish an 'Irish Sci-Fi' issue - have they never heard of Albedo One? In addition to SRP, there were several other worthy projects in the arts category, some of which only seemed to get a handful of votes, which was a pity. At least Guinness have had the sense to allow some 'wildcards' through to the next round.

Re: The Swan River Press
They were also given last minute promotion... I wonder how Guinness decided who to promote with the "Closer Looks" blog?
Latest News & Updates | Blog | Arthur Guinness Projects I agree with you Derek--I'm not sure how viable their project is. At worst, it will end up as a vehicle for selling ads for their marketing agency... Anyway, we did extremely well without project ;-) Best, Brian

Re: The Swan River Press
Hi everyone,
I'm afraid I have some bad news. I received a form letter from Guinness today that essentially said "Sorry, thanks for playing, but we're not giving you so much as a dime". Its the same form letter that everyone else received--even projects that got six votes (we finished with 4,432 votes). It's a bit odd that, after voting ended, Guinness essentially gave no updates. They didn't post final rankings, they didn't post a shortlist . . . they just didn't do much of anything. Until the form letter. This form letter is a huge shame, especially given the amount of effort that went into this campaign (which, as we all knew from the start, certainly served as a promotional tool for Guinness as well). Not just effort on my part (well over a month of solid promoting), but also those who helped to promote and made it a point to vote and circulate the link every day. Multiply that effort by the 600+ projects on that website--I think that finishing #2 deserves something more than a form letter. What frustrates me most is the lack of communication from Guinness. A public shortlisting would have been a huge show of support. Even final rankings of the projects on their website would have been validating. But no. However, what does mean something to me is the show of support from everyone who voted and commented on the project. It means that people do believe in and appreciate the work that everyone involved with Swan River Press does. This show of goodwill will remain hugely important as we move forward, and I am grateful to all of your for it! Of course anyone who wants a more direct way to support Swan River Press, there's always the old-fashioned way: "Books for sale! Get'em while they're hot!" The Swan River Press :-) Best, Brian PS I'll be in Brighton in October for the World Fantasy Convention. Do please stop by our dealer table and say hi!
