Noroi - The Curse
Excellent film watched last night. Not so scary but absolutely creepy and very very eerie...
Search for it on youtube.A very nice guy uploaded it on 12 chapters...I am very impressed about this movie. Review copied from dead pit after filming a documentary called “The Curse” Masafumi Kobayashi, a respected journalist with a fascination for supernatural phemonena disappears. This is the premise of “Noroi: The Curse”, a spine-chilling Japanese cross between “The Blair Witch Project” and “The Last Broadcast” from director Koji Shiraishi (Ju-Rei) and Taka Ichise–producer of such J-Horror classics as Dark Water, Ju-on and Ringu. After a disclaimer stating that “Names and organizations in this movie have been partially changed” and a warning that the documentary we are about to see is “deemed too disturbing for public viewing”, we are then shown Kobayashi’s documentary–and some extra footage that ties it all together and is guaranteed to give even the most jaded fans a case of the creeping horrors! Always on a quest for supernatural happenings to investigate, Kobayashi’s documentary is born after he begins receiving a virtual goldmine of reports of strange phenomena around Japan and goes about investigating, filming, interviewing and generally getting the crap scared out of him. Things like creepy baby noises where there shouldn’t be a baby, a little girl with psychic abilities who suddenly vanishes without a trace, a nutty psychic, driven mad by his own visions who wears tin foil and lives in terror of what he calls “ectoplasmic worms”, an actress (real tv actress Marika Matsumoto) and her frightening encounter in the woods while shooting a TV show, reports of stolen aborted fetuses, a mass suicide, some shocking and puzzling murders, demonic possessions–all seem unrelated at first but on further investigation our man Kobayashi finds distinct patterns that tie everything to a woman named Junko Ishi and a horrifying demon named Kagutaba–bent on destroying everything in its path. Asian horror fans, REJOICE!! If, like me, you’re ready for something different that doesn’t involve long-haired ghost girls or pale ghost children then checking out this film is a must! There is so much to love about this movie. The story is intricate yet easy to follow and very involving–no boring moments here! And did I mention it’s SCARY? Shot like a straight-up documentary, like “The Last Broadcast” with some shaky hand-held shots like in “The Blair Witch Project” this movie has all the great mysterious elements of both but is WAY scarier than either one. That’s right, I said it! Me, who’s a long-time fan of BWP. For one thing, when these guys run through the woods in terror we get to see what they see…and yikes! What they see is messed up! The atmosphere is fabulously uneasy with scary sounds (had me whimpering…nice!) crazy visuals (holy cow those last shots!!) and a “real” feel to the whole thing that, although I didn’t get the sense that the filmmakers were trying to fool us into thinking we’re seeing real events, we still feel like we are. Part of that is due to some incredible acting by all who, once again echoing BWP, are listed by their real names. There’s not a lot of music but what chords are played add greatly to the mood, especially the chilling tolls of a bell at the beginning and towards the end. | |||||||||||

Re: Noroi - The Curse
I've just finished watching part 7 above. I genuinely hadn't seen any of this film before writing my two 'knots' stories recently! (I'm not sure how significant the knots are in the film yet, but they seem significant). I'm not sure whether to watch any more of it!

Re: Noroi - The Curse
I just watched this and really liked it. The story felt like a sequel to The Frolic (that's not a spoiler btw).
