Favorite composers?

Apologies if this is in the wrong section of the forum, I didn't see a spot in 'Musician's Forum' for non-specific artists.

I love all era's (baroque, classical, romantic, etc) of classical music, especially solo piano and synthesizer composers.

Debussy
Ravel
Satie
Mompou
Chopin
Bach
Tomita
Ryuichi Sakamoto
Wendy Carlos

...are among my favorites. I love to write while listening to these artists, and I hope one day to be able to compose at least one piano/synth piece that takes inspiration from them.

My first attempt at at a Satie-inspired piece is here (though I am not pleased with the drums) https://soundcloud.com/auditorsounds/blindsight

Who are some of your favorite composers? Doesn't have to be old or 'classical', but maybe stick to non-repetitive (pop) music.

Re: Favorite composers?

Oh man, I totally forgot about Scriabin. Always thought he would make a great character in a Machen or Ligotti story.

Re: Favorite composers?

Arvo Part is probably my favorite contemporary composer. Religious or not, his music is beautiful.

I'm a fan of the Duke's Duet from Il Schizophreno.

Put your faith in God; he won't expect you.
Put your faith in death, because it's free.
If you believe in nothing, honey, it believes in you.

Anything by Bach.

I look forward to getting new ideas from this thread!

I first stumbled on Scriabin in The Light is Alone by Thomas Phillips...and after some late night auditions patterns began to emerge.

I coincidentally stumbled upon this gem at a Goodwill last weekend. Thoroughly enjoyed it! It was my first Bernhard, and I can completely see how some of Ligotti's later work was inspired by him.

Was unaware of this writer/musician. I'll have to check out his work
