Electromagnetically charged particles in Jupiter's storms produce dark ambient music
This is (apparently) a recording carried by the Voyager space probe using specially designed instruments to convert the electromagnetical vibrations emitted by super heated particles in Jupiter's storms into a sound frequency within the range of human hearing.

(Dictated while taking a stroll) I have come to realizewhat a superbly contrived marionette man is. Though without strings attached, one can strut, jump, hop and, moreover, utter words, an elaborately made puppet! Who knows? At the Bon season next year, I may be a new dead invited to the Bon festival. What an evanescent world! This truth keeps slipping off our minds.

This is rather eerie stuff. I feel the onset of the inspiration of a Jovian opera in three acts. I envision this one as dark ambient flamenco. "Great Red Spot" by Spot.

Where did you buy it? NASA has nothing on their website (other than some other good clips, like the compressed radio frequencies of Saturn's rings, very eerie) and Amazon only has two CDs listed, none of them available for purchase, I've also tried the easy way and download them either via torrents or P2P programs like Soulseek, but I haven't found anything.

This is amazing! At least now we know where Thomas Köner gets his inspiration from... ;-)

The way things sound on Mars. The following sound samples were recorded in vacuum chamber simulating Mars atmospheric conditions. (Sound files courtesy University of California, Berkeley, and the Planetary Society)

Re: Electromagnetically charged particles in Jupiter's storms produce dark ambient mu
What is so strange about sounds in other planets...?
What is so strange about sounds in the upper atmosphere...? What would definitely be weird is to listen to sounds in empty space, between planets, between stars. Having an hydrogen atom per cm3 makes impossible for sound to be heard in empty space, even though in some American films, and TV series (The old Galactica, for example), once could hear a space ship virtually blown up, in EMPTY space. That's certainly weird. All this said, different gases (atmospheres) allow different frequencies, and basically that's all, no magic.

Definitely. Lustmord also may be growing enviously green over Jupiter's ability to create music of his caliber without even having to think about it. Actually, I may check out his website forum to see if anyone over there has posted this. Great stuff.
