Neo-Decadence

I am sorry but under no understanding can D R be called a decadent. Pork pie hats, raincoats and football hooliganism are not decadent, neo or otherwise.

His writing is not Nietzschean or anything like that: it is pure fantastic poetry. Most writers, oddly enough, who claim they are "Dionysian" are actually decadents. Nietzsche was a decadent if you judge by his actual life.

(I first read Metrophilias before I was in contact with B. I was shocked and very pleasantly surprised to discover a modern writer comparable to J.K. Huysmans. It's still my favorite of his works and comes very highly recommended).

Metrophilias was my introduction to Brendan Connell as well, and its stunning originality and Decadence floored me.

I should re-read it soon.

Reminds me of Oscar Wilde, whose Picture I enjoyed reading in a Gothic lit class, together with viewing the first scene of the 1945 film.

Watching this with interest. And have decided I would like to aspire to being a ‘Practioner’ of Neo-Decadence.

Aye, if they ever have open submissions for an anthology I might submit something.

THE MANIFESTO OF NEO-DECADENT ACTIVISM

1. Assume no sarcasm.

2. Deletion of encrypted messaging apps is vital for progress in networking. Substitute these with cassette recordings of feminist spoken word poetry read in black metal vocals.

3. Consume everything and be confined to your armchair or consume nothing and never sit in an armchair in your life. There is no middle-ground.

4. Wokeness is synonymous with kvltness; nobody is kvlt except yourself, because the gut is the temple of the body.

5. Devise your rhetoric at random, discarding all previous notions on a whim. Become an ideological chameleon.

6. Find allies in flat-earthers, creationists, anti-vaxxers, etc. Facts are the spit of the shoe-shine boys of the elite.

7. Poison the wells with chai lattes and DMT.

8. Around your parents, become as offensive as a skunk; around your comrades, become as inoffensive as a church mouse.

9. Silver-pacifism is nice but violence is golden. Language is the most potent weapon, for want of the courage to serve serious time.
