I like these two covers by Howard Winters for Lancer Books.
And Sam Weber's cover for the soon to be released Penguin Classics treatment of Machen.

Re: Great Horror Cover Art
No attribution in the liner notes, tsk tsk. When I got the CD, I had the feeling it was some kind of HPL thing. The farmhouse and goat attributes should have guided me towards "The Dunwich Horror"... Thanks for posting, all three of those are excellent!

Re: Great Horror Cover Art
I love the Dunwich Horror cover posted by tanzmusik.
Attached are some more I'm not sure if "Lord of the Flies" is strictly horror, but it scared me when I read it as a child. I like the simple effect of its cover, it reminds me a little of Dustin Hoffman's broken glasses look in Straw Dogs.

This is the German photoplay edition published in 1926. This is the hardcover version of Lin Carter's study of the Cthulhu Mythos published by Starmont House.

(Dictated while taking a stroll) I have come to realizewhat a superbly contrived marionette man is. Though without strings attached, one can strut, jump, hop and, moreover, utter words, an elaborately made puppet! Who knows? At the Bon season next year, I may be a new dead invited to the Bon festival. What an evanescent world! This truth keeps slipping off our minds.

Re: Great Horror Cover Art
Excellent cover by Mignola for this classic horror story.
I like this cover art for the audio cd verion of The Trial. I prefer the older Muir translation, but the narrator, Geoffrey Howard, is outstanding. He is the only narrator of Kafka's fiction that understands his humor. He has done both The Trial and The Castle. Nice cover for an author who I have not read yet. He does a lot of Halloween fiction.

Re: Great Horror Cover Art
I find the idea of a small child looking like the older Alfred Hitchcock particularly unsettling. I'm not sure if the mother is supposed to have the same head, but maybe I'm being unwittingly uncharitable?

A Canticle for Leibowitz
You can almost hear the lowing drone of the lightcathedral as it passes over head in this one. Haven't read it yet - just bought it today at the recommendation of another TLO member. I don't see how it can live up to the cover art of LALO space pope shock troopers, doom metal preachers and lazergun bumper cars - but I guess I'll find out. Art is by Peter Jones and you can buy his book here SOLAR WIND BOOK : PETER ANDREW JONES PUBLISHING : SHOP
