The Einstein Mystery

Quantum Physicists Say Parallel Universes Are Real!

Einstein was a great lover of detective novels. On the night before his
death, a vision came to him in a cold lucid dream, revealing the very thing
he had searched 30 years for, the unifying theory that would at last reconcile
Newtonian physics with the quantum world. It was revealed to his dreaming
self in one clear brief equation. Einstein awoke, and though desperately
ill, reached out for the Perry Mason novel that sat on his bedside table.
There on the back inner cover he scrawled out the equation in full before
falling back to sleep, exhausted. The next morning, the last morning of his
life, he woke to the presence of his secretary who was anxiously watching
over him. With barely enough breath to form the words, he told the
secretary his great work was now complete and to take the paperback book
with the precious equation. She searched for hours for the book. It was no longer on the bedside table and Einstein had lapsed into the coma from which he would never recover.
Desperate, the secretary enlisted the assistance of everyone in the house to help her find the book. Only the maid did not participate in this painstaking search for she had left early for a dental appointment. Being a lover of literary mysteries, and knowing the customary lengthy wait that patients were routinely subjected to, (and knowing furthermore that Einstein was a goner for sure), she had ‘borrowed’ the book just hours earlier as he slept.

It has never been seen since.

I disbelieve. --Gray House

Good for you, Gray House, it's a complete, shameless invention on my part. A joke of sorts but with a serious side.

Reading a lot on the possible existence of Parallel Universes--which many physicists believe in--prompted me to consider the idea of infinite alternatives which would be, well, infinite, and even terrifying. Permutations beyond number. In a sense it reminded me of the old Eternal Recurrence which was based on the theory that Time and Space are infinite but matter finite; but instead of being infinitely 'condemned' to repeat one's life over and over, down to the smallest detail, the many worlds interpretation allows for virtually any conceivable variation...a Multiverse where a certain scientist might make his last, and greatest, discovery on his deathbed.
The point is something like quantum physics requires, for the layman at least, a huge leap of faith...even though quantum mechanics has never in application been proven wrong. The many worlds theory is fascinating but to really wrap your brain around it is a vast challenge. We can all understand to some point the general ideas but when it comes down to the Proofs we have to accept (or choose not to accept) the word of the Delvers in these Mysteries.
Hardly an original point. Still, it certainly bears consideration. In “Higgs Boson Blues”, Nick Cave sings, "Hear a man speaking in a language that's completely new..." "Have you ever heard about the Higgs Boson Blues/I'm going down to Geneva baby, Going to teach it to you." Those lines almost seem to imply or mock a religious pilgrimage of a sort.
Yes, both Religion and Science seem to require such a leap of faith these days I can't help but wonder what the future might bring.
