Andrew W.K. in Current 93?
I just read this in wikipedia:
"Recently, Andrew has been added to the live line-up of , and will play bass for them in their upcoming concerts." Can anyone confirm or deny this? Being that wikipedia can be edited by anybody, it is certainly not immune to pranks. But how bizarre if it is true! Aside from the Current 93 connection, the only other thing that Andrew WK and Thomas Ligotti have in common is that they originate from the Detroit/Ann Arbor area. Other than that they are complete opposites. AWK, in addition to being a popstar who records what can only be described as "dance metal" has recently begun a secondary career as a motivational speaker, and we all know where TL stands.

It seems that there is a connection between Andrew WK and Thomas Ligotti, though these letters definitely looks like a joke (or a fake):
http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...2-d735f58890d0 David Tibet has been propagating a bit for Andrew WK - I think he got turned on to it by Matt Sweeney. I've always seen Andrew WK as some kind of bizarre joke or conceptual art thing, but I guess that's open for discussion. |

They seem real enough. The connection through Tibet is logical, and the exchange plausible on both ends. Neither author strays too far from what I would have expected from him. Early WK interviews read like Tony Robbins on speed, but more recent ones show a more reflective and articulate side. Ligotti's stories are of course dark as pitch and I've read interviews that reflect this part of his personality, but I've also seen ones where he comes across as fairly affable. WK was in an early incarnation of Wolf Eyes which is about as dissonant as you can get, so I'm not surprised that he can appreciate the bleaker side of things.
I especially like how Andrew closes his last letter with "love" while Thomas sticks with "yours." Fascinating exchange. Pity that it's so short.

Below follows a list of C93 participants at a recent concert event, as provided by David in today's emailing of Durtro News.

But basically, I think there's more to Andrew W.K. than "Party Hardy" or whatever (anyone doing anything that stupid must definitely be clever). |

"It's just that I didn't believe Ligotti would write stuff like this . . ."
Well, perhaps if you received a letter full of nothing but appreciation and enthusiasm for your work, and, what is more, knew that the author of this letter was referred to your work by a person whom is not only a close friend of yours but also your publisher, you would find something nice to say in your reply. I'd wager that Ligotti didn't expect this private exchange to become so public. None of it's embarrasing, in any case, just a bit apart from image of the "Nihilist Prince of Dark Fantasy." ' But basically, I think there's more to Andrew W.K. than "Party Hardy" or whatever (anyone doing anything that stupid must definitely be clever).' His side of the exchange would seem to indicate that. I confess to having a guilty

I mean if he gets some more people to read Thomas Ligotti, cool for him. I'm sure his fans would definitely be taken aback by some of the material

The authenticity of the missives aside, one thing is certain: Mr. Ligotti does not appreciate having his private correspondence shared in a public forum.
