Yes, I share this feeling, although my fear is mixed with fascination. I have this fantasy where I'm teleported to the deepest ocean, and in that total darkness, the only perception I have is that of an incredibly large creature just brushing past me. I then wonder how long one would actually survive without air at those depths. I guess I would be crushed to death before that.

That reminds me: I remember Brian Lumley mentioning that he was proud of his aquatic horror-novels. I never figured out what he was referring to. Does anyone know, or do you know any good books focused on the horror of the ocean?

Re: Our Fears

I fear that there are people in this world who will never experience my greatness. Just kidding.

My greatest fear, is the loss of my mind; particularly through something like Alzheimer's Disease. I am lucky that I have no family history of it (though I know that's not a guarantee).

Re: Our Fears

I was woken from a deep sleep at 3 0'clock in the morning by my first floor neighbor to warn me that the building was on fire. To make a long story short, I jumped from a second story window, injured myself in the process, lost everything I had, and learned later that 9 people died in the fire.Since that incident I have problems sleeping and fear being awakened in the middle of the night, PTSD for sure. That happened 30 years ago and the fear still persists, not of fire, not of smoke (although its smell disturbs me a lot), but of the unexpected. That incident taught me to fear the WHAM! of nature. When you least expect it, you can loose everything. Ligotti is right, the universe is not a friendly place.
