The Crampton Songs by Ligotti

Just listening to these after a gap of a few years, having uncovered the six-song CD from a dusty R-Kive box and am amazed at how effective and moving they are.

Is this the sum total the vocal/music recordings available by Ligotti (excluding the C93 crossovers)? I seem to recall once being told that TL had a cassette archive of his own musical compositions, but that he wanted them destroyed after his death.

Yes, I believe so. He did This Degenerate Little Town and had a brief appearance reading from "Les Fleurs" at the end of the song Patripassian, but these were both vocals with Current 93.

I've never heard the rumor about the cassettes, but it's certainly an interesting one. Personally, I didn't think The Unholy City tracks were half bad. The music may not be award winning on its own, but when paired with TL's powerful words, it makes for a strongly effective performance.

Maybe TL mentioned the existence of the music cassettes to me back when I was emailing him during his office employment at Gale Group.

Ligotti is also credited with Hawaiian plucked steel on the track 'A Dream of The Inmost Light' from the Foxtrot-compilation.

I like the Crampton cd very much - there is a certain completely static vibe to it which I appreciate.

The Unholy City, as a whole, has a certain dissonant quality to it that is both compelling and unnerving, effects that were most certainly not coincidental.

''Welcome to The Unholy City'', the way the line is spoken is deliciously strong. Superb.
