Re: W. H. Pugmire

Wilum, have you spoken to F&B about your book with Barker?

Re: W. H. Pugmire

I have not spoken to Dennis at F&B about any book of mine--I couldn't be that audacious! I don't have the confidence needed to seek out publishers, I just wait and let them come to me if they have any interest in my work. Were Fedogan & Bremer to desire a collection, it would have to be something very special, rooted in their history. It would have to be moftly new work--with tales written in homage to two of their finest writers, Carl Jacobi and Donald Wandrei. I would want it to include the revised version of SOME UNKNOWN GULF OF NIGHT, and my Sesqua Valley "version" of "The Lurking Fear" that will soon be publish'd in FUNGI magazine. They would have to give me a year to write it, so that I could try and make it as excellent as possible. But this is a dream, ye know. And I think they are now being swamped with requests from people who want them to look at proposals of collections and anthologies. I don't want to be another pest buzzing in their ear.

Re: W. H. Pugmire

I certainly see your dilemma. However, fortune favours the bold with these sorts of things, and I should think our mutual friend might be able to help you "cut the line", should you broach the subject with him.

That is, assuming F&B's return to publishing works out. I'm always cagey until I see a few books in a row in print.

Re: W. H. Pugmire

I am deeply touched by ye Lovecraft eZine issue. Such a wealth of talented writers paying homage to Sesqua Valley is quite wonderful. I am now semi-retired from writing (I know, I know, I've said that before...), and relishing the laziness of just sitting in my living room, reading & dreaming. For the next few years I just want to relax, and then write when and if I am in ye mood. I've had seven books publish'd in ye last few years and feel I need a long break so as to begin fresh and have something real to say as a writer and dreamer. I want to write a story because it compels me to write it. I don 't want to write just because I have all of this free time and thus feel that I should be writing. I want to be an artist, not a machine. But I cherish my life as a writer, and will always return to it. To be publish'd, to have a book of one's own, always feels like magick, like birthday.
