The Whisperer in Darkness
The people over at the HP Lovecraft Society, who made the excellent film adaptation of The Call of Cthulhu, are currently making The Whisperer in Darkness. I haven't heard much about it, but here is the trailer. If it is anywhere near the quality of their first movie, it should be great.

Now that's an effective trailer! Just when we were about to say they don't make 'em like that anymore, they do. HPLHS seems to be hitting all the right notes. It is only fitting that Lovecraft be adapted in a 1920s or 1930s film style. I eagerly look forward to this film's release.

Re: The Whisperer in Darkness
I actually purchased this movie on ebay back in December and have since watched it a couple of times-- it's awesome!! Probably one of the best - if not THE best - cinematic adaptation of a Lovecraftian story ever IMO. Really well done. I hope these guys get to making another one here soon -- "The Shadow over Innsmouth" if we're lucky (fingers crossed). If you can find a copy, do yourselves a favor and watch it. You won't be disappointed.

Re: The Whisperer in Darkness
The scene where Albert Wilmarth sees the shadows behind the curtain is one of the most horrifying ever. Also, I hope the guys from the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society tackle At the Mountains of Madness next.

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.

I'd imagine that would be way beyond their budget.

Yeah, I know; it was just wishful thinking. They were able to finish The Whisperer in Darkness because Sandy Petersen, the creator of the Call of Cthulhu role-playing game, provided additional funds.

Re: The Whisperer in Darkness
I guess we will have to wait for the Guillermo Del Toro's version, which may never happen.

Re: The Whisperer in Darkness
Nice movie, but 1. too much "good vs evil" approach, 2. they skipped my favourite part where Mi-Go society is touched upon. I know it may have felt out of place in the movie, and it's a very small part anyway, but without it, the story suddenly seems a bit devoid of depth. Overall, it's a solid movie, and of course way ahead of most "Lovecraftian" films. It worked surprisingly well as a horror movie, very creepy. I liked how they made the protagonist a little more human, and the actors' performance was superb. Still, I like The Call of Cthulhu better.

How about Naked Lunch-era Cronenberg? Although he'd perhaps work better with The Thing on the Doorstep...

Re: The Whisperer in Darkness
It never occurred to me that David Cronenberg would make a great Lovecraft adaptation. I'd love to see him make The Thing on the Doorstep.
Or maybe Hal Hartley, withThomas Jay Ryan, James Urbaniak, Parker Posey.
