I love old, decrepit 335's. I've always preferred the smaller body of 336's, and to my ear they have a bit rounder mid-bark than 335's. Still love them both, though. Would love to get my hands on Gira's Lucille. The best guitars are the ones that have been played, and show it.

I regret never learning an instrument. I have been thinking about buying a keyboard. 28 can't be too late to learn. Others idolise Hendrix and Clapton (rightfully so), but I always wanted to be Keith Emerson or Tony Banks.

Joe Bonamassa has called the 335 a "Les Paul killer." In truth if you have a 335 or a Les, you don't need both (but, hey, I'd take 'em!) Any tone you can dial up on a LP you can get on that semi-hollow body as well. Wonderful guitars. I love the twang of a Tele of the thinner, more ethereal sound of a Strat, but if I had to choose an Island guitar, it would be a fat-sounding 335 hands down. You're right, Cnev; the more beat-up they are the better they sound. On the old ones, some say it's the alloys that were used in the pickups that made such a great tone. Today, the Ibanez copies are wonderful as well.

I also love SGs. The tone of Krieger's slide on "Moonlight Drive" was one of the great moments in rock music.

As a lefty, I really like the stuff Eastman is putting out these days, and Edwards (Japanese, ESP). The Eastman T486 is a great 335-style guitar, for considerably less money. Guitar quality is pretty good across all price ranges anymore, really.

I currently own a G&L ASAT Classic and I love it way more than I thought I would. It's crazy versatile, and can even get some really lovely jazz tones out of the neck pickup.

Well, cnev, G&L was started by Leo; and I think the quality of their guitars is right up there with Fender. I have my eye on a Placid Blue Strat copy so...maybe. Maybe.
The G&L ASAT is one fine guitar. I've played them.

Once friends and family are gone, you learn what to be alone really is. Nursing homes may have struck you as horrible destinations in the past; now, they seem like a beacon of Hope. But they aren't.
