Ohh it's not motivated by any higher motive or anything; I suspect just a way of selling individual short pieces without having to go through a middle man. Mark was planning to do a collection of essays in Ebook form at one point - I assume this is the next permutation of that.

I don't think it's a bad thing per sey but it can look a bit desperate. The Joshi ref was a nod to the making a commercial point out of one's online conflicts.

Tell me about it... yesterday I was at my Author Central account on Amazon and, out of curiosity, decided to see how many copies my first weird fiction collection had sold so far this year. I saw it had sold a whopping total of 1. But then I looked up the total copies sold for my second weird fiction collection and saw that it had hit the 2 copies sold mark, so that kind of cheered me up.

If I wanted money I probably wouldn't go about it by writing ghost stories. I'd be better off doing XXX cross dressing cam shows for lonely middle aged men. It's quite a lucrative market.

Yeah, every now and then I think about maybe taking up hustling, but I think I'm starting to get past my prime for that.

The numbers are quite dismal, assuming one is interested in the economic aspect of writing. I think roughly 5% of writers make enough to support themselves through writing alone. Of that 5%, the typical income is $20 - 30,000 a year, which means you'll be living a minimalist lifestyle - if you're LUCKY.

Never, ever write for money. A day job is essential.

The best way to support yourself through writing is to write memes that r/books can fawn over and can be readily made into a blockbuster film.
