Re: My DARK AWAKENINGS collection finally published

Got my copy today - rain, dull, gray horrible weather, bored, broke - it's gonna be a great evening (I hope)

Will write a little something on Amazon when I get the time.

Re: My DARK AWAKENINGS collection finally published

I just ordered Dark Awakenings from Amazon last night. Wish I would have visited your site first so I could've gotten the CD along with it. I found out about you the same way I discovered Laird Barron: I searched for Thomas Ligotti on Amazon and looked through the 'people who bought this book also bought' section. So far I've only read "Notes of a Mad Copyist" from your website, but I really liked it. Looking forward to getting your book.

Re: My DARK AWAKENINGS collection finally published

I am embarrassed to admit that, until a few nights ago, I had never read a story by Matt Cardin, although I have been meaning to for many years. I think I unconsciously avoided seeking out his work because I knew it would be brilliant and one is always a little wary to make contact with awesomeness. I finally ordered a copy of Dark Awakenings from Book Depository and, once it arrived, I devoured it in one night. I will not soon forget that encounter with the mandala drawing in "Teeth" or that loathsome coupling in "The God of Foulness." But my favourite story in the collection was the beautiful "Desert Places," the ending of which left me feeling utterly gutted (in a good way). I can think of few stories which evoke such a feeling of desolation. It looks as though I will now have to fork over some serious cash for Matt's earlier collection.

Re: My DARK AWAKENINGS collection finally published

I understand how you feel: until a few months ago, I had only read some essays by him, but then I read Notes of a Mad Copyist on Matt's website (Matt Cardin - Story - Notes of a Mad Copyist) and utterly loved it. The unpublished Divinations of the Deep introduction by Brian McNaughton is cool too:

Matt Cardin - Introduction to Divinations of the Deep

Also, Matt published A Course in Demonic Creativity online; you can download it for free from his blog:

Free ebook: A Course in Demonic Creativity The Teeming Brain

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.

Re: My DARK AWAKENINGS collection finally published

What a coincidence: I, too, had just finished reading Divinations of the Deep around a month ago and was impressed by what I read. The loathsome, putrescent horror in An Abhorrence to All Flesh, the soaring visions through cosmic, primeval, nameless gulfs of Notes of A Mad Copyist, and the apocalyptic, delirious inferno that is Judas of the Infinite. One of the premier weird collections of the twenty first century by an undisputed and intelligent master of the field. Matt Cardin has that truly rare cosmic sense, and can receive the honour that Lovecraft bestowed upon Clark Ashton Smith: None strikes the note of cosmic horror so well.

I believe in the power of the imagination to remake the world, to release the truth within us, to hold back the night, to transcend death, to charm motorways, to ingratiate ourselves with birds, to enlist the confidences of madmen.

Re: My DARK AWAKENINGS collection finally published

Anyone know if I ordered Dark Awakenings from Bookdepository (if I can get someone to help with a credit card) it would come with Matt Cardin's music CD? I'm really curious, particularly, as to how "The God Of Foulness" continues from the excerpt (that story used to be online but I can't find it, it was surelly and understandably taken off with the publication of the book)

Can't wait for To Rouse Leviathan!
