Re: 'True Detective' Season 2 News: HBO Crime Drama Heading To The Big Screen?

True Detective would just about have to be the most intelligent show aired to TV in years. I'd say it was Mcconaughey performance that made it was it is, so I wouldn't hold my breath for season 2.

If you want a thrilling dark drama with a Poe edge then watch NBC's Hannibal instead. It can be a bit formulaic, but at its best it's really something.

I enjoyed TD S1 quite a bit if I'm honest. The story wasn't anything special, but the production itself was highly atmospheric, and Matthew McConaughey's performance was mesmerising. I'll be checking out the second season, even if I was disappointed in the first season's sexism and lack of commitment to its weird fiction teases.

Hannibal has been pretty exceptional so far. The Season 2 finale was one of the greatest things I've ever seen on television.

Agreed. It's the only show running right now that I can say I'm addicted to, even though I still enjoy a fair amount of others as a Netflix junkie. If horror wasn't ghettoised (or the show was less gory and homoerotic) it would be sweeping up all the awards.

Re: 'True Detective' Season 2 News: HBO Crime Drama Heading To The Big Screen?

Yeah, I don't know, I'm just not all that interested in season two. I could watch it if I wanted as I actually have HBO now (mainly got it to keep up with Game of Thrones, was sick of always being a year behind with that one), it's just that without Matthew McConaughey and the Weird Fiction angle, it seems like it's going to be more like a straight-up noir/crime thing, and I have little interest in that. When reports first started coming out and it seemed like it was going to revolve around a Pynchonesque occult history/conspiracy theory, I thought, "H'mm, that could be interesting," but in a recent interview the writer said that aspect of it was totally dropped... so much for that!

I second everything said about Hannibal. I'd watch anything taking place in the Fullerverse (i.e. Bryan Fuller's overlapping - in the sense of recurring cast members - tv universe).

I'm looking forward to TD season two, but am desperately craving season 3 of Hannibal.

I love HANNIBAL.

Also, FYI, Ligotti is a HANNIBAL watcher (and admirer).

Re: 'True Detective' Season 2 News: HBO Crime Drama Heading To The Big Screen?

As for thrilling dark dramas, Millennium is still a favorite of mine, even though it is far from perfect.

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.
