Re: Looking for some dreamlike stories.

Thank you all for the recommendations. I'm glad to see Borges mention so frequently as I've been meaning to get around to his work.

Re: Looking for some dreamlike stories.

Jean Ferry - The Conductor and Other Tales - my favorite discovery within the last several years for what it's worth.

...there's also stories that are literally dreams - the following are all dream journals:

Kafka's diaries are available in a single volume trade paperback and record many of his dreams in detail.
William S. Burroughs - My Education
Georges Perec - 124 Dreams
Michel Leiris - Nights as Day, Days as Night (which I discovered while typing this had a new translation released just last month)

Graham Greene and Jack Kerouac also have dream journals in print, but I haven't read them...

To this list I would add The Adventurous Heart, by Ernst Junger, which seems to use actual dreams for some of its pieces, mixed in amongst autobiography and other, less definable episode.

Re: Looking for some dreamlike stories.

On the Marble Cliffs by Ernst Junger is excellent, dreamlike and not without nightmarish elements.
Same thing can be said about Jerzy Kosinski's Steps.

Funny...I picked up a copy of 'The Conductor and other Tales' earlier this year and found it so inconsequential I ended up donating the book to a charity shop, rather than having it take up space on my book case.
I only rated it 2 out of 5 on Goodreads too.
Still, different stokes and all that.

Re: Looking for some dreamlike stories.

Here's a couple of Ferry's stories - like most of his works, they're quite short:
