Twin Peaks - Series 3

In anticipation of tomorrow night's premier of episode 5, I thought I would start a thread on the new episodes of Twin Peaks. It seemed like the Last TV Show thread was getting saturated.

[Potential Spoiler Alert]

So I've been re-watching episodes 1 - 4 for a third time, and I could help thinking that in episode one when evil Dale makes his first appearance to pick up Ray and Darya, the guy in the wheelchair kind of looks like H.P. Lovecraft. Just an observation.

I can't wait for episode 5!

He does! Lynch does a brilliant job with details like that in this scene. I like the mirroring in characters. The short man in the wheel chair seated next to the long-limbed, lanky hillbilly in a chair too small for a man his size. Also, the actors playing Ray and Darya have noticeably different eyes, as Ray's eyes are very close together, while Darya's are abnormally far apart. The man of the house is an idiot with a mouthful of huge teeth, his wife is the ringleader and is gumming around without her dentures. This thing is an onion, layer upon layer of details. Can't wait for tonight!

Your guess is as good as mine. My initial thought was Annie, but Heather Graham is mot listed a s a returning cast member.

Maybe it's Diane! Maybe this is Laura Dern's big entrance.

What are your thoughts GirlyGirlMask?

I enjoyed episode 5 tonight and will re-watch it soon.
Dr. Jacobi stole the episode for me.

My guess is Diane as well, and that she'll be played by Laura Dern. But I've been wrong about a lot of things so far. I thought Knepper and Belushi stood out in episode five, as did Russ Tamblyn.

Re: Twin Peaks - Series 3

Another thing I loved about episode 5 is a reminder that Lynch knows how to take perfectly innocent songs from the 50s and 60s and imbue them with a sense of ominous dread.

For example, in Blue Velvet you have 'In Dreams' (as well as the title track). In Mulholland Drive, you have 'I told Every Little Star' and 'Llorando' ('Crying' in Spanish).

[Spoiler Alert]

Episode 5 gives us 'I Love How You Love Me' as a foreshadowing of impending doom.

This is the most likely option, though I wish Diane could remain as an invisible mystery woman. I was even slightly disappointed when I read THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF DALE COOPER and found out she was just Coop's secretary. That killed my speculations that she was his dead mother, or just his pet name for his tape recorder.

Re: Twin Peaks - Series 3

You guys watched this in 2017, at the premiere. So what happens after five years? Has it worn off?

It must be re-watchable, there are so many scenes I want to revisit.

Anyway, I really enjoyed episode 12. Nothing spectacular, and pretty slow, but very good dialogue. Cole and Albert! Cole shouts: "We'll figure it out. But for now I'd really like to get back to this fine Bordeaux." Albert: "What kind is it?" Cole looks at his watch and shouts: "Eleven o'five."

Sarah Palmer and Audrey Horne back, both greater than ever! Interesting that Audrey is married to this bizarre little midget with narrow shoulders, they really must have found each other - it's all in the mind, personal mental chemistry, and she simply could not resist his relaxed and balanced company. Or that's how I figure it anyway. Lynch tells unconventional stories, and it is very interesting.

Re: Twin Peaks - Series 3

When the series first came out, I would watch the first airing of each episode on Sunday night. Before the new episode aired, I would rewatch the previous weeks episode right before it. Then on Wednesday, I would rewatch the episode again. Rinse-spin-repeat.

This time around, I'll rewatch seasons 1 and 2, Fire Walk with Me, and then season 3.

This harkens back to an earlier episode, in which Cole shouts to Albert: "What?" And Albert answers, "You heard me." And very true, Cole did hear, because a moment later he answers to Albert's original comment.

Albert is pissed off with Cole because he feels that Cole hears more than he acknowledges. And Cole just looks back at him with his sappy smile, like he didn't have a clue. And after a long silence Cole projects the issue onto Albert, saying he is worried about him.

Impaired hearing can often be a psychosomatic handicap, a combination of actual physical impaired hearing and not wanting to hear.

I find these situations hilarious.

Lynch combines sharp observations of tragedy with humor that sometimes chokes on itself. And he seems to regard the young people as a seriously lost generation. Like Richard Horne, various junkies, and Andy's and Lucy's pathetic son Wally. A clue to this can be found in psychiatrist Lawrence Jacoby, who has "awakened", and accuses leading politicians of having sold themselves to international corruption and failed at their primary obligations to the people and society.
