Count Stenbock

The "Divinely Decadent" Count Stenbock is featured in the February issue of The Book and Magazine Collector here in the UK. The article, by Rosalie Parker, is embellished with a number of photographs, a couple of which were kindly supplied by David Tibet. (Others are from my own Durto collection.) Recommended!

Thank you Ray . I shall have to go up to London and read Studies of Death some day.

I often think back to the heady days of the Stenbock Society, when there was so little to do and so much time to do it in...

Ah yes! Those long summer afternoons of ennui when simply considering how we might pass the rest of the day was too, too exhausting...

Question Re: Count Stenbock

I'm looking for information on Eric Stenbock. A search for the Stenbock Society led me to this website.

I've already begun collecting copies of his work. What I need is information about Eric, the man. About his life.

Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I take it you've read both The Lost Club article and the online mini bio? There is a biography from Cecil Woolf publishers entitled Stenbock, Yeats and the Nineties which used to be easy to find, and I believe one of the Durtro books contains a Stenbock bibliography - how accurate it is now I do not know. Also, a small amount of information about the state of his memorial can be found in the thread linked to in my signature.

If you are looking for more specific information such as details of unpublished work or regarding copyright you could try contacting David Tibet about it.

However, if you're looking for information about the Stenbock Society then that may be harder to come by. We defer to Ray on such matters.

The Stenbock, Yeats and the Nineties bio is by John Adlard from 1969 (also a limited edition). It's ok, but Adlard spends far too much time on Stenbock's family, friends and acquaintances. I suspect this is because relatively little is known about the man himself (at least when trying to fill a book). But perhaps more information has been uncovered in the last forty years?

Question Re: Count Stenbock

Thank you. I'm interested in any and all sources of any kind relating to Eric Stenbock. My sister and I are planning to write a biography on him (something more comprehensive than Adlard's 60-odd page booklet).

Adlard's book is on order (I didn't want to mark up the local library's copy). David Tibet is on my list of people to contact, but we're waiting until we've collected more information before contacting him. We want to be able to ask the right questions.

What exactly is the Stenbock Society? Is it anything like the Idiot's Club, or is it more of an appreciation group?

I assume Timothy d'Arch Smith is also on your list? At one point David was planing to write a new biography of the Count.
