Re: Vastarien: A Literary Journal Is Open for Submissions

I think all pessimists should root for the translation of Mario De Sa Carneiro's poetry from the Portuguese.

“The real reason why so few men believe in God is that they have ceased to believe that even a God can love them.”

Re: Vastarien: A Literary Journal Is Open for Submissions

Thanks everyone for your enthusiasm and some great suggestions. The editors will definitely be discussing them. We've got lots of submissions coming in, many from the TLO community. Keep them coming! Most of them have been short fiction, with several poems and some very promising artwork also submitted. While we encourage fiction writers, poets and artists to keep sending work, we have not received much in the way of nonfiction. So, if you have any inclination to put together an interesting critical take on LIgotti, his influence, his influences, and the Ligottian weird in general or if you have a related scholarly article in mind, please send them.

Meanwhile, we continue to work our way through the submissions. We'll update you very soon on the proposed schedule for going live with Vastarien. Once again, thanks for all your support.

Thank you for the update, Arthur. I think I can whip up a nonfiction piece for you all relatively quick

Re: Vastarien: A Literary Journal Is Open for Submissions

Great news! I havent been here very often so this is a great surprise!

I wish you guys all the luck in the world with this project. Specially looking forward to reading the fiction by the other members here. I always lurk the Library of Byzantium and there is a lot of talent here.

"I myself have never seen the Red Tower - no one ever has, and possibly no one ever will. And yet wherever I go people are talking about it. In one way or another they are talking about the nightmarish novelty items or about the mysterious and revolting hyper-organisms, as well as babbling endlessly about the subterranean system of tunnels and the secluded graveyard whose headstones display no names and no dates designating either birth or death"

When is the deadline? I have awoken with a surge of motivation and creativity and hope to get something sent out before I relapse and delete everything again in shame.

This looks like it will be great.

I just submitted a story too. Good luck for me and all who submit.

I thought about submitting an academic paper I wrote on Ray Brassier's transcendental nihilism (as it is presented in Nihil Unbound), but I've already sent a short work of fiction.

Re: Vastarien: A Literary Journal Is Open for Submissions

Since we have had an extensive supply of fiction (and some high quality stuff at that) but a much less extensive supply of non-fiction, I'd encourage you to submit the nonfiction piece. It sounds intriguing and we'll give it a thorough review.

Will do. I'm afraid, however, that it greatly exceeds the word count. I'm also afraid it doesn't relate directly to the work of Ligotti. It's more about speculative realism and the rejection of correlationism (post-Kantian philosophy).
