"Escape to Thin Mountain" Audio Production on Pseudopod
PseudoPod 547: Escape to Thin Mountain Delighted to announce that the audio version of my story, "Escape to Thin Mountain," is now live on Pseudopod. This will be my third full-length tale to be produced there. Dagny Paul, stellar writer and voice-over artist and fellow New Orleanian, narrates and gives a spectacular, chillingly perfect performance. Many thanks to her, the editors of Pseudopod, Shawn M. Garrett and Alex Hofelich, and the host/owner of Pseudopod, Alasdair Stuart, for finding value in my tales and always giving them the best production treatment imaginable. "Escape to Thin Mountain" is the last story in my collection, The Secret of Ventriloquism, and it's my sentimental favorite--the tale I still feel most emotionally invested in. I hope you'll listen (it's a quick 20 minutes) and will enjoy it. "This the horror of music two keys above where it should stop. This is the horror of a world not so much painted over yours as it is smeared. The horror that, if you are supremely, astronomically lucky, is merely a breakdown that you will be dealing with for the rest of your life. This is the horror that, if you are not lucky, is based on the most terrifying thing of all: truth. Quiet spaces. Old sightings of history. Songs that are warnings and siren calls all at once and wrapped around one another. That’s the world Jon shows us here, and because we are lucky, we’re allowed to leave it. Outstanding work, as ever." | |||||||||||
"Thomas Ligotti is a master of a different order, practically a different species. He probably couldn’t fake it if he tried, and he never tries. He writes like horror incarnate.”
—Terrence Rafferty, New York Times Book Review

The reader, Dagny Paul, has a good voice for this.

"In a less scientific age, he would have been a devil-worshipper, a partaker in the abominations of the Black Mass; or would have given himself to the study and practice of sorcery. His was a religious soul that had failed to find good in the scheme of things; and lacking it, was impelled to make of evil itself an object of secret reverence."
~ Clark Ashton Smith, "The Devotee of Evil" |
