Harold Billings RIP

I heard the very sad news today that Harold Billings recently passed away.

I reviewed many of his wonderful books I have listed HERE

He was a lively and encouraging voice via this electronic medium in the latter years of my life. And he sort of allowed me to share his Angel Bird.

I shall miss his presence in this world very much.

Re: Harold Billings RIP

I am sorry to read that.
I have two of his books.
Enjoyed reading A Dead Church, but held off opening the sequel for a year.

Re: Harold Billings RIP

With all his books, his literary legacy is assured.
Essential weird fiction of high quality.

I am also saddened to learn of Mr. Billings' passing. A true bookman.

To be honest, I query Harold Billings in Amazon and I get few hits.
One has to be able to have access to his, or any author's writings, to be able to appreciate.
Or are there a pile of e'things' I am overlooking?

Re: Harold Billings RIP

Most of his works were published in small press only by Ex Occidente and Zagava. Des Lewis' "Real-Time Reviews" site reviews most of these books.

Re: Harold Billings RIP

That's what I'm saying.
How can a legacy be assured if no one else can read or evaluate his works?

Re: Harold Billings RIP

Maybe someday Dan Ghetu will perform a great service by putting all of Ex Occidente in ebook form for a wider audience.

There exists a natural trust that great books will fulfil the faith one has in them.

I do not know Mr Ghetu, and I have, to my knowledge, never bought directly from him.
Nevertheless, I fail to see why he would do that.
Personally, I see limited profitability in ebooks.
Aside from million selling authors, where the sheer volume might drive revenue, or out of copyright works that publishers can peddle without those pesky royalties (Jane Austen).
In my opinion, ebooks cannibalize sales of physical books, not to mention the prickly issue of piracy. (Why spend 2 for an ebook, when you can get it for free?)
Of course, you may be writing ironically, and I took you at your word rather than with a wink.
Publishers may weigh in on this. I don't know if they actually read this forum or merely post new releases.
My feeling is that profits in niche market are razor thin as it is.
That said, Tartarus offers ebooks aplenty.
Maybe a rep from that press will comment.
Or offer to publish Mr Billings!
