I have done a search on Phil's whole real name, as I suspect others who know it have done also. But I personally have found nothing useful.

Meanwhile, here is the GSC maintained Ligotti Quotation Forum, on which he has worked very hard, as he has on other forums. This is a treasure trove from Rover!

A few months ago when we were wondering where Phil had gone, I (like others) googled his name and didn't find much. I thought of those google searches again yesterday when I was reading news about toxic tap water in Flint, Michigan (a horrible story). The name of the city seemed familiar -- didn't Phil live there? I googled his name again, and I'm sorry to say I found an obituary. The birthdate is the same as the birthdate on his TLO profile. The obituary says Flint, MI, and his TLO profile says Fenton, MI, but Fenton is a suburb of Flint. Apparently Phil died on December 6th.

I originally posted this in a private forum because I didn't know Phil personally apart from online interactions and all I know about his death is the above obituary. PHILLIP STECCO (1957 - 2015)

TLO's official "Our Temporary Supervisor" for a number of years.

Known as GS Carnivals and Spotbowserfido2, he abundantly filled this TLO forum with his delightfully disarming personality, his myriad choices of Ligotti fiction quotes, plus his multitudinous adeptly harvested quotes in other named fields, and countless Quirks (many of the real quotes and quirky fictional fiction collaborations featuring my own name, a fact about which I have always been proud.) He even gave me titles for my own fictions, all of which were then posted complete on TLO.

He travailed very hard for TLO with an evident passion for Ligotti's fiction work. I may be wrong, but I sense he was less passionate about the later Ligottian philosophical work.

I only knew Phil through his posts on TLO and a rare few personal Internet messages between us. More than once, he won Internet competitions that I ran. As did another TLO member I knew as Candy who I understand worked for some time alongside Phil in an office environment, a supposition that is based on both their public comments on TLO. Phil, I recall, won a copy of my book 'Weirdmonger', now out of print. It would have been on Phil's bookshelf, a fact that makes me feel very proud.

I am very sad to hear this news today. I visualise the image of Phil in my mind's eye, someone I am sure I would have liked in real life if I had not lived with the Atlantic between us. He was a person I should really have met if the stars had been right. May he rest in peace.

Well, that sucks.

I read the Wikipedia entry on Flint water crisis (Flint water crisis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) and it happened because they switched the city's water supply from Detroit to a nearby lake in an attempt to reduce costs, but a lot of people suffered lead poisoning caused by the old pipes and an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease, which killed 10 people.

Even though I live in Argentina, this kind of news pisses me off, because it is another glaring example that politicians worldwide don't give a damn about the people they represent and their only concern is saving money and protect big business' interests.

Phil was a great guy who gave me some sound advice on poetry when I first joined as Montag. Needless to say, the man has been missed.

When I saw that this thread became an active thread again, I expected bad news.

G.S. Carnivals left a wonderful legacy with his posts concerning Thomas Ligotti's fiction, and weird fiction generally. I admired his enthusiasm.

I've found an internet list (to be exact, its the Literary Horror group at Goodreads), where I found a home to discuss the greats of weird fiction (Ligotti, Reggie Oliver, Clark Ashton Smith, etc). My goal is to leave a similar legacy as that left by G.S. Carnivals.
