Re: The LigottiCon in my head
Re: step 3—if «a prospective panel member should be intimately familiar with Ligotti’s oeuvre, have the time to commit to reading the submissions carefully and discussing their merits/shortcomings among the panel, and be evenhanded», then I see no reason why the role of chief editor could not be rotated among the members of the panel, depending on availability. So if the first issue/edition is curated by X, but then life or work or something worse gets in the way, the next one can be overseen by Y or Z, upholding, of course, the same criteria of quality. Just a possibility.
Going a bit further ahead into the selection process, maybe it could be arranged that the people who select the works to be published are locked out of the account that receives the submissions. As in some literary contests, it could be asked that contributors send their work as an attachment under a pseudonym. The person(s) in charge of the submissions account could simply upload the files into a private cloudstorage account (dropbox or similar), so the judges will only see the text under a fake name, the actual data of the contributors being temporarily withheld from them. This might be unnecessary from the team's end, as I'm sure whoever ends up there will be stand-up guys, but it could offer a certain guarantee to the people doing the submitting that the group is avoiding any form of bias. Lastly, how about Professor Nobody's Little Journal of Ligottian Exegesis and Miscellanea. Or PNLJOLEAM for short.

Re: The LigottiCon in my head
I think plenty of people would go to a Ligotti convention, at least if it were planned in such a way to appeal to Ligotti fanatics and more casual fans alike.
Most of the people who went to the NecronomiCon, for example, aren't really huge Lovecraft fans. Most of us just go because there will be readings by writers we like, panels on related subjects (Weird fiction, etc), and mainly because we expect to find lots of like-minded people with whom to share drinks, meals, laughs and discussions.

Cynothoglys, that sounds like a VERY sound process and path. I second it.

Re: The LigottiCon in my head
Sounds like a plan. Some obvious nominees for board members would be Cynothoglys, Matt Cardin, Jon Padgett, and Joe Pulver. Sorry if I'm missing anyone else. What happens next?

The idea of a convention sounds like great fun. But that would require I leave my home, go to an airport, travel. Oh look, I'm breaking out in hives already.

I'd be up for a virtual Ligotticon. I'll watch from home, just like Tom. Who is willing to wear the cameras? What about the prayer breakfast speech?

Re: The LigottiCon in my head
Hope no one took my last post as volunteering anyone. Just wanted to point out a few of the many who are deserving of the deepest respect in the matter of Ligotti.
So, can this go anywhere or is this a pipe dream? Dr. Locrian, is this forum an appropriate place to host such an endeavor? Anyone interested in pursuing this further? I am. I believe my email address is available to you all. If not, you can contact me at arthurstaaaz@gmail.com, and we can discuss it further.

Re: The LigottiCon in my head
An online convention seems like the way to go, considering many of us are from other countries other than United States.
Guillermo Del Toro's fans did an online convention last year, but I do not know how succesful it was: Del Toro Con | the online Guillermo Del Toro Fan Convention
Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.

LIgotti magazine title vote: This Degenerate Little Periodical.
I know nothing of running or writing for a magazine or organizing things. i can barely keep track of my socks, but wow! i am suprised to see what started off as a half joke inspired by joke-religion conventions (I went to SubGenius X-Day a couple times) turn into possible actual things.
