People certainly shouldn't be afraid to hear them out. I'm not good with science but I saw a long interview with Alex Epstein and he didn't inspire confidence with his fondness for Ayn Rand.

You're not concerned about Trump on Global Warming, Net Neutrality, free speech and his diplomatic skills (already going badly with China and Pakistan)?

Re: Trump

To not believe in climate change, and to vote accordingly, is nothing to brag about.

If only the Arrogance of the True Believer could be harnessed for the production of home heating energy we'd never run out of hot air... I think I shall leave the Enlightened in peace to enjoy their self-righteous buzz. Tolerance was never a quality of the neoLiberals.

Yeah, all those damned neo-liberal polar bears... And Bernie Sanders, who we all know is such a huge neo-liberal.

So confronted, the candidate must either bark with the pack or be lost...All the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre--the man who can most adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum."
I once fell in love with Plato's notion of the philosopher king. I'm far more cynical now. However, I will always have respect for "politics" in the classical sense of the term. I respect the tradition of politics as it was conceived by the Greeks and Romans, which is why I still feel some appreciation for classical liberalism in its Goethean form, i.e., the general acceptance of the Republican form of government without ignoring the shortcomings of the democratic process. Having said that, I don't care for the caricature of classical liberalism created by the American Right; it lacks the emphasis on the "nobility of the soul" embodied in its early form(s). I feel I would've definitely sided with Cicero, not Caesar.

"In a less scientific age, he would have been a devil-worshipper, a partaker in the abominations of the Black Mass; or would have given himself to the study and practice of sorcery. His was a religious soul that had failed to find good in the scheme of things; and lacking it, was impelled to make of evil itself an object of secret reverence."

Re: Trump

My contribution to Conservatism:

Opossums don't hibernate; they're not that lucky and have a hard time making it through the winter. One little guy or gal snuck into my cellar and apparently wants to winter it out there without turning into a block of ice (he ain't no polar bear for sure). Wth. I'll let him winter it out since he finds the cat food agreeable. When March comes, I'll kick his long-tailed ass out.
That's as far as my interest in Conservation goes. Humans can take care of themselves.

I call 'im Brown Jenkin.
