Thomas Ligotti highlighted at MTV Music Blog
In an April 5 interview for MTV Music Book Club, the polymathical Andrew W.K. explains why Tom's Teatro Grottesco is his favorite book.
Amazing to say, it's more than just a short blurbish piece. It actually gets a bit into depth, with Andrew talking at some length about Tom's typical themes, and about his introduction to the Ligotti universe via personal contact with David Tibet, and some other stuff. Knock me down with a feather, you could.

Re: Thomas Ligotti highlighted at MTV Music Blog
Very interesting, thanks for heads up Mr. Cardin... That Andrew WK is one fascinating and intelligent dude with his hand in many diverse pots. It is indeed quite surreal to see Mr. Ligotti associated with the plastic dreck that is MTV in any way.
No mention of Andrew WK is complete without also mentioning the bat#### insane conspiracies that swirl around him. Here is a webpage dedicated to... something. If you can read the whole thing, you are a better person than I. The wall of text, over-scrutinization of photos, coded messages, and extrapolation of known information reminds of those New World Order reptilian shape-shifters Illuminati Satan websites. (As it says at the top, the page does contain nudity, but despite what it also says at the top, it does more or less work on Macs.) If you want to feel good about yourself and what you do all day, check it out. This whole subject is one of those things that I figured was a prank at first, but I can't recall non-crazy people putting this much effort into a prank... (Except maybe those crop circle guys, but that is different.)

Re: Thomas Ligotti highlighted at MTV Music Blog
For those of you yet to click the link, AWK says of reading TG:
"You can fully embrace Ligotti’s view of the world, which is that it’s just terrifying. The overwhelming amount of unknowable aspects of reality is crushing and debilitating and terrifying. Everything is falling apart and futile and even with the efforts we make we’re struggling to ignore the fact that there’s this huge windy void of nothingness and mystery that we can never fully comprehend. And if we could it would destroy us. I came away with it in the end even with this sense that we can’t understand and it’s crushing, it’s also very liberating. It gives you a freedom as well because if it is meaningless than I can have fun all day. It’s freeing and crushing at the same time." Wow. It's a shame I don't like the guy's music more. It pretty much sums up how I felt upon reading TCATHR when it was posted here---and goes towards explaining the trepidation I feel about reading that black tome in its newest, final incarnation. Matt, I share some of your concerns, as elucidated elsewhere, about "not making it back" but have decided to take the plunge once again. Here's to seeing if the strength I feel that I have gained since reading TCATHR three years ago hold up.

Re: Thomas Ligotti highlighted at MTV Music Blog
It's stunning to see Thomas Ligotti mentioned in a MTV article. Seems like the reprint of Teatro Grottesco has worked some strange publicity miracles. It's a testament to TL's literary power that he gets borderline mainstream attention without producing new fiction. I can't think of any other writers who can manage this sort of thing by reissuing existing work.

Andrew W. K. is a "motivational speaker"!!! It's kind of fun to imagine what that must be like.
We're all going to need some of Andrew W. K.'s motivational speaking after we read the final version of CATHR.

I wonder if he lives in a van down by the river.
"What does it mean to be alive except to court disaster and suffering at every moment?"
Tibet: Carnivals? Ligotti: Ceremonies for initiating children into the cult of the sinister. Tibet: Gas stations? Ligotti: Nothing to say about gas stations as such, although I've always responded to the smell of gasoline as if it were a kind of perfume. |
