Re: Most Rewarding Recommendations From Ligotti and TLO
Ligotti and this site have served as a gateway to literature in general for me, as I had barely even cracked open a book until an old manager of mine lent me Current 93's I have a Special Plan for this World many years ago. It was the CD alone without a case, and he had no idea who the author was behind the words. I was so obsessed with it that my first order of business after listening to it on the car ride home was to find out the author's name. That is how I found this place, although i didn't register for some time due to being incredibly intimidated by the content here. Now, I come here regularly looking for new stuff to read or even music to listen to. I love this place. It has seriously been invaluable to my life. So, thank you TLO.
Anywho, off the top of my head: From Ligotti: U.G. Krishnamurti Cioran From TLO: Powys Durrenmatt Quentin Crisp Pessoa Chambers Julia Kristeva Huysmans Trakl and all the amazing authors I've read in various collections and failed to remember.

Re: Most Rewarding Recommendations From Ligotti and TLO
I've taken notes of hundreds of things from here but since I'm so slow reading, the only recommendation I got to enjoy a lot was clips of Marie Davidson's music after Child Of Old Leech put some in the music thread.

TLO members.
Agreed. In addition to the two you mentioned, I can think of a few more offhand: Beyond the Black Rainbow, Yellow Brick Road, Starry Eyes, and Berberian Sound Studio. I am sure these would have flown under my radar and I would never have heard of them if it wasn't for A few more great recommendations from Ligotti: Hedayat's The Blind Owl Sakutaro's poem "The Face at the Bottom of the World" (I have never been able to find a reasonably priced copy of his collected works, Rat's Nest.) "The Last Messiah" by Peter Wessel Zapffe

Re: Most Rewarding Recommendations From Ligotti and TLO
I do not remember if I saw it here on TLO or elsewhere for the first time, but one book I forgot to mention earlier is a A Course in Demonic Creativity: A Writer's Guide to the Inner Genius by Matt Cardin. And it's free!
A (still) free ebook The Teeming Brain

Re: Most Rewarding Recommendations From Ligotti and TLO
Good thread, Ben!
Pn the eighties I often brought my Mother books from the local library; she loved all literature but on one particular day rhe batch was predominantly Westerns and Detective novels. A few nights later, she said to me, "You've got to read this, it's wild!" She was chuckling and shaking her head. I took the book and read the paragraphs she pointed to. It was crazy; a savage description of Indians, some with stovepipe hats or shirts on backwards, one brave wearing a wedding gown, all killing and sodomizing dying victims in gory fashion. It was so over the top Horror turned into laughter. It was also brilliant. I forgot about the book, never got around to reading it, but a comment made on one of your posts convinced me that the book was something called Blood Meridian. So I checked it out and, indeed, it was. Thanks, Ben.

Re: Most Rewarding Recommendations From Ligotti and TLO
I really enjoyed this recommendation by a few TLO members:
Beautiful Darkness by Fabien Vehlmann & Kerascoet Coa and Acutely decayed both recommended this one. At times very funny, but a surprisingly disturbing read. It has been compared to Lewis Carroll's 'Alice books.' The comparison is a fair one, but the humor is slightly different. It would be as if when the Queen of Hearts shouted "Off with their heads!" and then they were actually chopped off. It is also reminiscent of The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks. (This could also be posted in the "Fairy Tales" thread.)

Re: Most Rewarding Recommendations From Ligotti and TLO
The most rewarding recommendation from Ligotti and TLO for me is probably Ligotti's fictional works.
I actually got into Ligotti's The Conspiracy Against the Human Race through Cioran and Zapffe. I liked the book, but I didn't plan to read his other works. It was only after joining this forum (4 years later) that I bought My Work is Not Yet Done and Songs of a Dead Dreamer. Other stuffs: lots of dark poems, Pseudopod, https://strangeremains.com/, yo la tengo, Max Richter, The Possession....
"Tell me how you want to die, and I'll tell you who you are. In other words, how do you fill out an empty life? With women, books, or worldly ambitions? No matter what you do, the starting point is boredom, and the end self-destruction. The emblem of our fate: the sky teeming with worms. Baudelaire taught me that life is the ecstasy of worms in the sun, and happiness the dance of worms."
