Even though Swan River Press produces some excellent hc books these days, I think it offered some neat books and chapbooks from the very beginning!

Oh yeah, those chapbooks and booklets are time consuming to make, but were really fun to do. I don't think I'll do any more of those though to be honest. There's the off chance that I might do one or two more, but I really get the feeling that format's seen its day! Onward, I say! I'm really pleased with how the hardbacks are looking for sure. I'm not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but tucked-away at the bottom of the June SRP mailshot is the announcement that their next publication will be the Selected Stories of Mark Valentine.

Tucked away is right! :-) Trying to get the cover sorted out first before I announce it. But the selection is already settled and it's just a matter of time. I'm aiming for October.

In the meantime, we've got some other excellent books coming out!

A small footnote in the last newsletter... a little more information now... the next book we'll be doing after Old Albert will be SELECTED STORIES by Mark Valentine, an author whose stories are often difficult to come by at a reasonable price! Jason Zerrillo is hard at work on the cover image, while the boards will feature a photograph by R.B. Russell. I hope to start taking pre-orders and announce the contents as soon as we have the cover ready to go!

'The eight stories in this beguiling first collection are full of
apprehension and mysteries whose solutions often dangle just out of
reach of the characters. In "The Rain," a single woman's holiday visit
to a small town turns nightmarish when the locals turn on her for some
obscure violation of their customs. "Chanctonbury Ring" tells of an
archeologist who encounters at the site of two ancient Roman temples a
teenage girl and baby who, as the narrator comes to realize, belong to
an earlier time. The title story, which also features an archeological
excavation, is narrated by a woman who clearly knows more about the
ruins that remain unearthed at a local burying ground than she lets on
to either the interloping archeologists or to the reader. Although
some of the stories end so ambiguous as to be anticlimactic, Parker
shows considerable skill at creating dramatic tension and moods of

The reprint will look almost indistinguishable from the first
printing, though we've taken the opportunity to touch up some of the
rougher edges of what was our debut venture as a hardback publisher.
In addition to updating the typesetting to conform with current SRP
formatting, we're including head/tailband typical now of all current
SRP titles. The contents, however, will remain the same: the stories
are just as good, so if you've not yet read them, now's your chance!
