Re: Hanns Heinz Ewers
Sorcerer's Apprentice, Alraune, and Vampire are all available as kindle books as are Hanns Heinz Ewers Volume I&II. These are all reasonably priced. Alraune and Sorcerer's Apprentice are illustrated. I've had "Vampire" available on kindle for a year now. This is the first I've made print editions available. I do believe that electronic media is the wave of the future, but some of us really like to hold real books.

Re: Hanns Heinz Ewers
Thank you.
I suppose I'll begin reading The Sorcerer's Apprentice after work today.
"In a less scientific age, he would have been a devil-worshipper, a partaker in the abominations of the Black Mass; or would have given himself to the study and practice of sorcery. His was a religious soul that had failed to find good in the scheme of things; and lacking it, was impelled to make of evil itself an object of secret reverence."

Re: Hanns Heinz Ewers
Possibly of interest: My forthcoming horror encyclopedia features a biographical-critical entry on Ewers as well as a separate entry on Alraune. Both are written by Richard Gavin.

Re: Hanns Heinz Ewers
Dear all,
for those tired of the wait for the Side Real editions of 'Sorcerers Apprentice' and 'Vampire', (and someone did ask me if he would ever see 'Vampire' he died!) Joes volumes will certainly do the job. His translation of 'Vampire' is the same text as the projected Side Real version. I can also recommend HHE Vols I and II as both contain much previously untranslated discerningly chosen. Its probably also worth reminding everyone that the Ajna edition of 'Hearts of Kings' with the wonderful Stefan Eggeler illustrations is still available, AND for those with deep(ish) pockets, they have just announced a deluxe version- in the tiniest edition of any Ewers book I have ever heard of- a mere 17 sale copies. You know you want them all... REGARDS! John

Re: Hanns Heinz Ewers
I went with this for now:
EDIT: I purchased both volumes I and II. There are some typos contained within both, but I am very pleased with what I've read so far. I was surprised to discover so much satire in Ewers.

Re: Hanns Heinz Ewers
I've already encountered several stories by Ewers which are actually quite funny. However, I've yet to read anything comparable to "The Spider," though, except for perhaps "The Water Corpse" and "Fairyland."

Re: Hanns Heinz Ewers
I have not. I just had to purchase a vehicle and I recently had to relocate, so I'm on lockdown financially speaking. I have both The Sorcerer's Apprentice and Samuels' Written in Darkness lined up, though.

Re: Hanns Heinz Ewers
I'm just going trough The Sorcerer's Apprentice, pretty interesting experience alright. Anyone else thinks how the bit where Herr Baum is daydreaming about turning the cult and their village into massive, all-inclusive international business, together with going into detailed plans, is remarkably similar to one section from The Secret Glory?
http://www.gutenberg.org/files/35637.../35637-h.htm#I Search for "He was thinking of what he would do when he succeeded to the Headmastership" and go on from that bit, you'll realize what I'm talking about. I just thought it funny, nothing else.
