The Night's King is probably the only good thing about the series in my view. Kind of sad about the origins of the Others though - I liked the idea of them as a sort of Lovecraftian elder race which are only just beginning to awaken now that the stars have are right (in one of the Dunk and Egg stories an old knight makes some passing comment about how the winters having been growing colder and longer since the last of the Targaryen dragons died, a nice touch to emphasis the cosmic nature of the Others return).

(Case in point about shallowness: people writing on the Game of Thrones wiki about how morally 'grey' and original it is to have the enemy as a corrupted slave race condemned by their very nature to torment and endless appetite for destruction despite the fact that this is exactly how the orcs are in Tolkien)

National Theatre Live: Macbeth starring, once again, Sir Kenneth Branagh. I love the guy.

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.

Re: Last TV show you watched

I'm rewatching the Battlestar Galactica reboot. It's funny how at some points I remember which characters turn out to be Cylons and at others I get so caught up in the story I totally forget and buy into the characters' "humanity."

Profoundly disappointed with the finale to Penny Dreadful. A real dog's dinner.

Meanwhile in Game Of Thrones, Ramsey made a great dog's dinner.

What an incredible Game of Thrones episode. It does not beat Blackwater or Hardhome, though.

Re: Last TV show you watched

Does anyone remember "Nowhere Man" with Bruce Greenwood?

It was on a channel called TBN, if I recall correct, and Tobe Hooper was involved in it, though he didn't get the end result he wanted and had to rush the ending, which is as grim as could be possible; one could call it the dystopic version of "The Prisoner".

Greenwood is a superb actor. Everything he does is gold; "The Riverman" with Cary Elwes especially.

I thought the Game of Thrones battle was really well made, but the writing was cookie cutter crowd pleasing predictable fodder. Everything was signposted a million miles away.

I feel fortunate that I was never swept away by the Game of Thrones hype tbh

Re: Last TV show you watched

The writing is getting worryingly weak but I was still pretty giddy watching that episode.
