Re: Off the radar metal album recommendations

Cold Dimensions website says that Coldworld are working on new material, so we can hope for another album, but there's no information on when.

Meantime, I'm looking forward to Xasthur's forthcoming collaboration with Marissa Nadler.

Re: Off the radar metal album recommendations

I need to check back here more often. A lot of these bands being mentioned are amazing! In particular, thank you Freyasfire, I'd heard of Atrox before, but had no idea how awesome they were.

Re: Off the radar metal album recommendations

Love The Axis of Perdition. Good people there, too. They have a lot of interesting projects they're involved with: Pulsefear (not metal), Phaleg, Hesper Payne, Mine[thorn], etc.

Not exactly Atrox in terms of ferocity, but, female vocalists in a creative metal setting: The 3rd and the Mortal (especially the Painting on Glass release), Madder Mortem (All Flesh is Grass being my favorite), and a newer act out of Greece called Universe 217 is very promising.

I'm really glad you enjoyed the Atrox so much! And I would definitely second rresmini's recommendations for The Third and the Mortal and Madder Mortem. Some other bands you might want to check out with avant-garde metal music and female vocals (although there are also male vocals) are Ram-Zet (especially the album Intra), uneXpect (In a Flesh Aquarium) and Diablo Swing Orchestra (any of their albums).

I lost interest in Axis of Perdition after "Deleted Scenes..." They haven't recaptured that sheer brutality and terror evidenced on "The Ichneumon Method" and everything Madder Mortem releases is gold

there is no stronger drug than reality

Been enjoying the reissue of '96 Mexican Black Ambient epic Beneath the Cursed Light of a Spectral Moon, by (who else?) Funereal Moon.

Re: Off the radar metal album recommendations

If Stryper are off the radar, congratulations, you have a functional radar.

I need someone to fill me in on what is happening in metal.

Recent albums I like: Incendiary by Ares Kingdom, Sweet Poison by Angst Skvadron, Mirium Occultum by Dødsengel, Scorn by Avsky (sort of), the Midnight Odyssey reissues.

Albums I look forward to: Astriaal, In Lingua Mortua, Arckanum, Primordial.

What am I missing? I like metal that is either (a) weird and/or complex (Dødheimsgard, Misery's Omen, Celebratum), (b) groovy and riff-oriented without lacking "atmosphere" or pandering to mosh-pit sensibilities (Urgehal, Arckanum, Sorhin), (c) epic and/or symphonic in non-stupid ways (Nazxul, Kvist, Lunar Aurora, Primordial) or (d) all of the above (In Lingua Mortua, Code). As you can probably tell, black metal is my favourite genre, but death and thrash recommendations are welcome as well.
