Re: Samuels, "Written in Darkness" available

Not my view, lad! It is perhaps the single big focal point with the largest reach when it comes to modern 'weird fiction' writers gaining an audience. Mark Samuels would undoubtedly sell more if he were in with that crowd rather than being more of a fringe recluse. This is his biggest online community of fans (outside of a few people, most of us rate him well), and he doesn't even like the place.

I suspect his book The White Hands will gain a reputation that outlasts many recent poseurs, however.

Re: Samuels, "Written in Darkness" available

Now that Brendan Connell's Pleasant Tales is on the road to publication, it seems like the days of "Weird Fiction" and other morbid entertainments are pretty numbered anyway. Not feeling at home in a vast universe of inexplicable phenomena is a pretty early 20th century idea - think most writers now feel that the universe is more like a pal who is rooting for them.

Speaking as someone whose Amazon book sales rankings are usually somewhere down in the 4-5 million range, I would say that a #115,917 ranking doesn't look too shabby from where I'm sitting.

I'm afraid my own tastes will always lean toward what is considered the dark and macabre.

Actually, I kinda admire the Lovecraft Ezine crowd... For one, those arcane mental gymnastics they employ in order to describe every other currently popular genre fiction movie, TV series or video game as """Lovecraftian""" are quite something.

Re: Samuels, "Written in Darkness" available

Actually, Justin, I find it hard to imagine the Universe as a pal rooting for me. No doubt my own limitations are formidable ones.

For some reason, I keep imagining it as a hot schizophrenic girlfriend who likes to play with sharp objects.

I think she's a biker chick.

Re: Samuels, "Written in Darkness" available

In short, yes. We're experiencing formatting problems of a kind previously not encountered. Until these are solved, unfortunately, we won't be able to release it. But I'll post a notice here once it's available.
