Ink Stains 88: Phantasmagoria 2 | ComicAttack
Kenneth Smith is still around and should have more work coming out eventually, he talks a bit about that here. I'm only really interested in his art/fiction. I found his columns for Comics Journal incomprehensible at the time and I know a lot of people either hated or loved them.

Re: weird fiction, visual

Fatale is a noir-flavoured Lovecraftian tale about a mysterious woman cursed with the power to make men to fall so deeply in love with her that they go insane. The story stretches across several eras including the wild west, WWII, '70s Los Angeles , '90s Seattle, and the present day while taking in lost manuscripts, lost films, cults, tentacled monsters, and cosmic horror. Written by Ed Brubaker and illustrated by Sean Phillips.

I have been on the fence with this.
I have Fade Out by those guys, still unopened in my bookcase.
For whatever reason, Fatale Vol 1 is more reasonably priced than Vol 2.

Re: weird fiction, visual

I wasn't too impressed with volume 1 but because the comic was originally intended to only run for 12 issues I bought volume 2 anyway just to see how it ended. Except it didn't; Brubaker and Philips had decided to extend the story. Initially I was annoyed but I ended up enjoying the series as a whole.

Re: weird fiction, visual

When I say volume 1 and volume 2 I mean the trade paperbacks with 6 (I think) issues per book. Not the deluxe omnibus editions.
