Re: True Detective vs Twin Peaks

I'm not sure Anderson simply declined, there was a disagreement over pay and then he bitterly accused Lynch of being a paedophile rapist murderer and making a series about him raping his own daughter, which is obviously absurd. I think I heard he was quite anti-Semitic too but that might be wrong.

Wow, I had not heard that, really crazy! (Though I guess it goes with the territory in David Lynch-world).

Re: True Detective vs Twin Peaks

Yes, Anderson is quite the lunatic. There is that moment in the Red Room when the Man From Another Place tells Agent Cooper "The next time you see me, it won't be me." Perhaps they have a built-in workaround to him having talked himself right out of the new series. I think it could work just fine if the MFAP takes a new form. In fact, I'd like the lodges to appear altogether different in this iteration. The Red Room, as brilliant as it was, has been referenced so many times in so many areas of pop culture that its kind of lost some of its juice for me. Maybe the gates to the lodges have reopened 25 years later and they have been replaced by an altogether different structure.

Having the killer turn out to be a crazed redneck from a stock 90s thriller was much less interesting than the BOB reveal. --James

But wasn't Bob a crazed redneck from an 80's slasher film? He certainly looked like it lol.

I loved Twin Peaks during its day and for two decades after. But tastes change. These days I'd give TD the edge.

The BOB reveal was great. True Detective's wasn't, though one thing Rust's story had over Twin Peaks was that it was a fairly lean story rather than losing its way utterly as Twin Peaks did mid-S2 before finally getting back on track at the last minute.

I thought the main villian in True Detective was the overarching conspiracy behind the murders, not the Yellow King. If it were merely the latter, I would've been extremely disappointed with the series as a whole. Even though I loathe the ending, I thought it was appropriate that the detectives never really catch the "bad guy."

"In a less scientific age, he would have been a devil-worshipper, a partaker in the abominations of the Black Mass; or would have given himself to the study and practice of sorcery. His was a religious soul that had failed to find good in the scheme of things; and lacking it, was impelled to make of evil itself an object of secret reverence."

Re: True Detective vs Twin Peaks

I watched Twin Peaks for the first time only about a year ago and couldn't get into it due to all the quirky characters. I know this aspect is a big part of the show's popularity, but to me it felt like Lynch was trying to incorporate a murder mystery into The Red Green Show.
