There's more good/interesting material in the territory waiting to be translated (in some cases retranslated; I'm still awaiting a definitive translation of Gombrowicz'z The Possessed). But it should also be acknowledged that the last 25 years or so has been a boom time for translations of "international weird" literature, particularly thanks to small presses specialising in translations, notably Atlas, Dedalus, Twisted Spoon and Wakefield. Interesting stuff can also be found in the ctalogues of Pushkin Press, Dalkey Archives and NYRB. Most of these presses also manage to produce attractive, good quality editions at reasonable prices. So, a round of applause for them.

How would you people explain lack of recent Japanese weird and horror fiction in English translation? Is it that there isn't much of it of note or that, as I saw mentioned somewhere, Japanese authors nowadays generally produce some types of genre fiction in manga form rather than in prose?
