For any publisher to republish books as ebooks, the authors’ agreements would be required, I guess.

I also think that a memorial RIP thread is not the best place to debate this or any other potentially controversial matter.

I agree that this thread is not the place for such discussions. I think the issue of what happens to an author's work when they die is a neglected one, however. I suggest that someone interested in the topic might start a new thread devoted to it.
