Topic Nominated An Unusual Guitar

Since Ligotti is a player why not have a thread devoted to unusual guitars? More fun than debating the racism of long dead writers or the merits of political systems.

Love this 1919 antique. Looks like it's well on the way to melting into a Salvador Dali painting. And that oval sound hole! Ye Gads!

And then there's this beauty (everyone should have a harp guitar):

Love that 1919 Gibson. What a beauty!

Re: An Unusual Guitar

Kevin, this 1902 Martin is a work of visual art as well. The pearl work is gorgeous. Insane and intricate beyond belief.

Six figures? Six figures.

Re: An Unusual Guitar

Beautiful. But then, most things - architecture, mother of pearl marquetry on guitars, clothing, book covers, etc. - were more beautiful in 1902.

If I had 6 figures for a guitar, I'd plunk it down for that one. But since I don't play guitar, it would have to simply be a work of art on it's own stand, played only by visiting guitar masters.

The tone almost brought tears to my eyes. Sweet.

Re: An Unusual Guitar

Many collectors, some having collections worth millions of dollars, don't play.

Some view the guitar as a tool for creating art; but these things are works of art pure and simple.

Yes, some things were better in 1902!

Re: An Unusual Guitar

You heard this bit of Weirdness on records by the Delfonics, on Steely Dan's "Do It Again" and on many, many more recordings:

Re: An Unusual Guitar

I would like to learn how to play the flute, but I doubt I'd become an Ian Anderson anytime soon. Does anyone have any flutes to recommend though?

Sorry if this is a bit off-topic.

Re: An Unusual Guitar

Try this link, Morko. I hope it helps you. Flutes are cool; guitar and flute duets can be quite nice.
