Re: David Lynch
"Inland Empire" has images that do come straight out of a Ligottian framework. Like the bunnies ironing things while the chorus laughs mindlessly. Maybe if the bunnies were burnt out, that'd be more apt.

Re: David Lynch
To my mind, 'Gas Station Carnivals' is perhaps Ligotti's most 'Lynchian' story par excellence; the banal everyday hosting the otherworldly, the manipulation of reality, the presence of higher powers with unguessable agendas, the nebulousness and mutability of identity, and an ever-present atmosphere of irrational, inescapable dread - it's one of the closest equivalents of a Lynch film in prose that I know of.
(Probably all reasons 'GSC' is all-time favorite of mine too.) | |||||||||||

Re: David Lynch
It helps to know that the same actresses (and actor) were also in Mulholland Drive. Perhaps this the "logical" sequel to Mulholland Drive.

Re: David Lynch
Although he is far from a genre director, I wouldn't hesitate to call Lynch's oeuvre as including some of the greatest 'horror' films of all time; his ability at recreating the suffocating dread of nightmare is without equal in the medium or elsewhere (perhaps only Ramsey Campbell can match him), so here is a selection of my favorite, most frightening, scenes:

Re: David Lynch
I agree, Child of Old Leech. Many of the weird & horror writers I know count Lynch among their major influences. He's as important to me as any writer.

Re: David Lynch
I believe it; speaking personally, it would be virtually impossible to over-exaggerate the influence Lynch has had on me throughout my life - there are few artists of any medium I feel greater kinship with. Really only my personal pantheon of prime influences - Poe, Lovecraft, Kafka, and Shirley Jackson- have had similar impacts.
