Malpertuis

Just thought i'd put this here also, from my blog:

"Well, i've been sitting on this news for a while, awaiting the resolution of certain legal aspects, but with that taken care of i feel at liberty to 'announce' that the Estate of Jean Ray has accorded me the exclusive right to adapt that Belgian master of the grotesque's seminal novella 'Malpertuis' for the comics medium."

Re: Malpertuis

That's terrific. I came across 'Malpertuis' for the first time earlier this year, so I would certainly appreciate a graphic adaptation of the piece.

Re: Malpertuis

Self-promotion is crass and tedious, i know, so apologies; but for those who've expressed a modicum of interest in seeing what i've done to Jean Ray's chef d'oeuvre: in the run-up to the book's release i'll be posting on my blog some excerpts from the versions i did not complete/leads i did not follow.

Re: Malpertuis

Oh man, the fist image in the waiting room is perfect. The shadows are perfectly illogical... the candles are casting darkness rather than light, and the central shadow/candelabra wonderfully evokes a laughing monster of some sort that appears to be smothering anyone seated in its negative "glow"...

Please keep us apprised of progress on this project. Is publication timed to coincide with the Wakefield Press's forthcoming reprints?

Well, that's one image/concept that did not make the cut ( candles casting darkness ), sorry to disappoint.
I'll post links to new deleted scenes as they occur, unless the good Doctor considers it spamming, of course ( i feel bad enough about this post as it is...).

I had no idea that there was a new edition forthcoming.

Re: Malpertuis

Not disappointed. I knew those image were the "rejects". Doesn't mean I can't like them!

"Reprints" is not strictly accurate. My bad. They are first-time translations of his collections, beginning with Whiskey Tales.

Re: Malpertuis

Last of the rejects, & ordering info ( what little text there is, is in Dutch because that's what we got the rights for, but for overseas orders i'll get the publisher to slip in a leaflet with English translation)...

Re: Malpertuis

Apologies. I don't post here that often anymore, or anywhere for that matter. The plague year is slowing everything down to a crawl when not hysterically speeding things up. Hope everyone's doing well.
This is merely to notify that, if anyone liked my version of Malpertuis, i just made a little booklet which features a kind of bootleg coda to that work. My last word on old man Ray's chef-d'oeuvre, so to speak. Capstone to a capstone.
