I don't understand. Why would anyone expect you to "shut up" about God?

Re: Believing in God makes you a better person

Recently Penn Gillette agreed reluctantly but with true intellectual integrity that the world would be a better place if all Islamists converted to Evangelical Christianity.
There are degrees and I'm surprised, for an obviously smart guy, FP doesn't see this. Christians aren't big on suicide attacks...

FP, if you didn't exist, we'd have to invent you! Now be nice!

Just kidding on the last.

Actually, I wouldn't delete any of your posts if I were moderator. But hey life is what it is, eh?

Doesn't mean I'd fully agree.

Re: Believing in God makes you a better person

For me, it is as simple as this: You don't need to believe in God to be a better person, but if you think believing in God makes you a better person, go for it. Just don't preach about it.

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.

Re: Believing in God makes you a better person

Penn Gillette is the type of vicious libertarian--doesn't give a sh*t about anyone in society except the other rich people--who cloaks himself in a garb of "safe nerdom", if I can invent a phrase. He always talks about "being the weird kid", all this bulls*t; he is an advocate of economic euthanasia for the poor. And he's a mediocre skeptic at that. He was on TV praising his buddy Donald Trump last I saw.

It may make one a better person as part of liberal arts, i.e., it allows one to experience the different aspects of the human condition.

Penn is a good guy. And "his pal" Trump is riding high, at least for now. Interesting times.

Penn's view of capitalism is the naive and unintelligent kind prevalent in American libertarianism, but I'm a huge fan of his magic and have been since I was a kid.

Trump is so obviously a terrible person that it borders on parody that he has gained popularity. It's like when the Penguin ran for mayor in Batman Returns.

Re: Believing in God makes you a better person

Why's he a "good guy"? What bears that out?

And to be fair, there's no difference between a guy like Penn Gillette and a guy like Paul Ryan.

Paul Ryan isn't a terrible guy but he is uninteresting. Penn is a damn good magician and he gets my vote for President!
Sorry, Donald. But if Penn doesn't run...

Re: Believing in God makes you a better person

Paul Ryan is a monster--ever see his economic plan?

And Penn Gillette the very same kind of monster. Masking his contempt for the poor or minorities or even taxes with this other nonsense
