Re: David Lynch

He is the only director of his style who can achieve the excellence he does so consistently, in fact he is the creator of a whole new style of film-making, "Lynchian" anyone?

Others "have a go" at his style but Lynch is the real thing, and completely unique.

I often watch his films and feel like weeping, knowing I will never create anything that good.

Re: David Lynch

"David Lynch: The Unified Field will be Lynch’s first major museum exhibition in the United States, organized in close collaboration with the artist. It will bring together approximately 90 paintings and drawings from 1965 to present. Part of the exhibition will explore Lynch’s early work, much of which has never been displayed in public. Six Men Getting Sick will be restaged for the first time and presented with related drawings. Several early short films, made in Philadelphia, will also be on display."

Opening tomorrow, September 13, at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts: http://www.pafa.org/davidlynch/

Here is a video which I think is nicely documenting the show:

Re: David Lynch

I saw a Lynch exhibition in Paris back in 2007. "The Air is on Fire" it was called. Had a very large collection of paintings, drawings, sketches, photographs, sculptures, and a screening room where you could watch his short films.

Sadly I only got to see the paintings because the one day I had time to go I got lost in the metro, had to ask around (in my fractured French) for a bus that would take me close to the location, and by the time I got there it was like 30 minutes before closing time. Too little time, so I focused on the paintings. Before they kicked me out I managed to run upstairs and buy the huge book with reproductions of, I think, everything that was on exhibit. So I have that going for me, which is nice.

Also from what I could see on screens at the exhibition, David Lynch not only attended the opening, but sat down and played music on the keyboard to create an eerie mood while everyone else browsed the collection. That must've been quite the experience!

Re: David Lynch

I remember seeing "Mulholland Drive" in a theatre when I was 16. That was one of the most important experiences I have ever had, inside or outside the world of aesthetics.

Me too. I used this as an excuse for a week's holiday in Paris. I didn't see the opening but I remember that Lynch's music was playing from speakers throughout the exhibition. I bought a CD of the music, plus the excellent exhibition catalogue. It was good to see the paintings "in the flesh" because several of them were enormous and had a 3D sculptural quality, incorporating great lumps of paint, cloth, coins etc. Julee Cruise was performing at the gallery on one of the nights I was there but unfortunately I failed to get a ticket.

Twin Peaks is back:

Twin Peaks Saved! David Lynch To Direct Even More Than Expected, Thanks Cast And Fans

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.
