(Dictated while taking a stroll) I have come to realizewhat a superbly contrived marionette man is. Though without strings attached, one can strut, jump, hop and, moreover, utter words, an elaborately made puppet! Who knows? At the Bon season next year, I may be a new dead invited to the Bon festival. What an evanescent world! This truth keeps slipping off our minds.

Re: Swans

Saw them last night at The Arches in Glasgow. Superb. A highpoint of the evening for me was their rendition of 'Sex, God, Sex.' Stephen

Re: Swans

I can't help but think of TCATHR when listening to the opening track from the new album. Can you guess why?

Re: Swans

I was lucky enough to be the photographer covering them when they played at a festival in Cardiff this past weekend. I'm a huge fan so i leapt at the opportunity. They were stunning. Best gig i've been to for years. I still need to sort through the photographs but i've put a few up on my website if people want a look.

Re: Swans

Am I the only Swans fan here who's slightly disappointed that Mr. Gira would bring a child into this crooked creaking world.. this MALIGNANTLY USELESS existence?

This is not to say that I'm not fond of the new album. I like Wagner too, but this doesn't make me an antisemite.

Re: Swans

I was actually at the first return show at the Trocadero, though I do not believe that it has come up before here...

'Twas exceptional.

Live tapes? I have several that may interest you if you don't have Swans are Dead, or have it for that matter. Zee itinerary:

-056h: Trondheim, 1997. Distinguishing feature: Intro from Soundtracks ("I Love You This Much"), 28 min. version of "Feel Happiness".
-053g: Atlanta, 1997. DF: Last U.S. show, mystery acoustic song.*
-005b: Los Angeles, 1985. DF: Few shows from this year; Interesting variants on $-era songs.
-042a: Amsterdam, 1988. DF: Two unreleased songs, "The Unknown" and "A Young Girl Needs More".**
-052a: Paris, 1995. DF: Ends with "Helpless Child", "In" and "Alcohol the Seed" performed.***

*The song begins with "I strangled your neck" and appears in all respects to be the sequel to "She Lives!".
**"The Unknown" is slow and ominous at first, with a roaring refrain. "A Young Girl..." is melodic and calming, ending in a manic coda. Form a sequence starting with "Let It Come Down" (outright scary here) and ending with "A Young Girl...".
***More ætherial synthwork on "Alcohol the Seed" than on The Great Annihilator.

Silent One......just came across this old post on the thread.

Would you be able to list the other tracks from the Trondheim and Paris shows? A 28-min version of Find Happiness sounds amazing!

Also, are there any other shows you'd recommend (it looks like the shows above were from Jarboe's site?).

Thanks.

Re: Swans

I saw Gira and company here in Barcelona in May, it was amazing. I was standing just four or so meters from the stage. It was INTENSE. The guy right in front of me started bleeding from one of his ears.

I think that this is probably appropriate.
