Re: Ligottian Television
Agree Druidic, and it seems to me to be more of a conscious effort to avoid references to Ligotti. Another theory (unsubstantiated and no evidence to support it thus far) is that the possibility mention in your second posting is not correct and Nic wishes to preserve the mystery.

I guess I am just pessimistic but they are probably--like many in "showbiz"--quite content to cut an extra body off of the gravy-trough; helps their margin.

Re: Ligottian Television
So several people have pointed out that Nic Pizzolatto avoided mentioning Ligotti when I interviewed him for The Arkham Digest. He wanted to clear the waters, so we did a micro-interview (one question!) in order to focus strictly on Ligotti's influence and why he didn't say anything before.

Re: Ligottian Television
Thank you so much, Justin. Would you mind posting that link on the new TRUE DETECTIVE thread as well?

Re: Ligottian Television: The Magic Toyshop
The late Angela Carter's novel The Magic Toyshop was published in 1967. The Granada Television film, directed by David Wheatley, was scripted by Carter and appeared in 1987 - soon after Neil Jordan's film The Company of Wolves (1984), which of course was based on some short stories from Carter's collection The Bloody Chamber.
The Magic Toyshop starred Caroline Milmoe, Tom Bell (the toy maker), and Killian McKenna. This television film was issued on VHS, but as far as I know has never appeared on a professionally produced DVD. The DVD I bought from an independent retailer turned out to be a home transfer from the VHS video, which obviously is now only available second-hand (prices range from about £5 to £35). The tape - yes, I bought one anyway, hoping for some improvement in the picture to the version on YouTube - was an old ex-rental video. Regrettably, There's no difference in the picture quality to the version found at a few YouTube channels. So - sorry folks, but until someone at Granada decides to issue a real DVD, this is as good as you're likely to find. I have uploaded the entire film to my YT channel but, for the moment, here's a brief taster in which the marvelous Tom Bell meets a grisly end at the hands of his vengeful creations. Knowing Mr Ligotti's fondness for all things marionette, I can't think of a better place to post it. I hope you like it. N.B. I did intend to post this on a new thread - after all, the subject is pretty old and was not originally written/filmed as exactly 'Ligottian'. Angela Carter was after all a curious and unique creature. But I just couldn't get the damn video to show unless I put it in an already-established thread. Never mind. Visualize a wry Smilie right here.

- This was just brought to my attention, and looks like it could possibly set a new standard for Ligottian tv, courtesy of the creator of Wonder Showzen and The Heart, She Holler.
