Re: The Swan River Press
I admit, I also cast a vote for "Green Tea", despite having many other favourites. I also also voted for "Schalken" and "Madam Crowel". These three, I feel, leave strong impressions in my mind. Always the sign of a good tale!

Re: The Swan River Press
Maybe I shouldn't have voted because I've only read 3 of his tales so far (Schalken, Justice Harbottle, Green Tea) but I have the 8 volume Leonaur collection. I voted Schalken.
Are the two versions of Schalken that different?

Re: The Swan River Press
Yes and no. I'd have to re-read them both again, tracking changes, but there were passages in both versions of Schalken that struck me very differently. I'd definitely say both are worth reading for comparison.
Same goes for Le Fanu's "The Watcher" (both 1847 and 1851 versions) and "The Familiar". Le Fanu makes some subtle changes that effect the emphasis of the story. The 1847 of "The Watcher" is being reprinted for the first time in our forthcoming volume Reminiscences of a Bachelor. Jim Rockhill and I provided two essays at the back of the book in which we talk about the publishing context and various versions of "The Watcher"--so we recently had the opportunity to take a closer look at all three volumes :-) Best, Brian

Re: The Swan River Press
I've only read Carmilla by Le Fanu. Is anything else by him that good?

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.

Re: The Swan River Press
Thanks! I will definitely check those out. I love Carmilla almost as much as I love Dracula

Re: The Swan River Press
I'm very excited about this. I've tried to locate these two in the past and put it off. Now . . . tada!
