Showtime to revive Twin Peaks
http://www.cnbc.com/id/102063521
Nearly 25 years after its disappearance, the cult classic drama "Twin Peaks" is returning to television. After a host of teases, CBS' Showtime on Monday said it will revive the widely followed series for nine episodes in 2016. ABC canceled it after two seasons. Showtime said the new show will provide long-awaited answers and conclusions for the shows' passionate fan base. "Twin Peaks" creators and executive producers David Lynch and Mark Frost will co-write and produce the new episodes. "What more can I say—TWIN PEAKS with David Lynch and Mark Frost on Showtime in 2016," Showtime President David Nevins said in a statement. "To quote Agent Cooper, 'I have no idea where this will lead us, but I have a definite feeling it will be a place both wonderful and strange.'" Set in the present day, the series will continue the storylines developed in the second season. As a part of the deal, the network plans to re-air the first two seasons of the original show leading up to the premiere of the limited series. The network did not disclose which characters would return to the show. Somebody get the Log Lady on the phone.

News indeed.
I know there's really, really, really no need, but just because it's never not awesome:

I don't know if this is good or bad. It was so long ago since I saw it on the telly the only thing I can recall immediately is "damn fine coffee" and I may have even got that line wrong.

Re: Showtime to revive Twin Peaks
Since it's set in the Present they should bring back all the original actors. Even the ones who have died, hey, it's Peaks. (Won't watch it otherwise). Cooper and Harry should have aged nicely. After all, Harry put years into working with the Major to spring Cooper from the asylum and exorcise Bob. We'll find out the whole thing is a riff on Leiber's Change War and the Lodges are like the recruitment centers for Leiber's Spiders and Snakes. (That's how the Dead will live again; and in this parallel time stream some good guys--like Hawk--will be Evil Incarnate while others like Leo will be the salt of the earth.) We'll see.
Yes we will. | |||||||||||

Re: Showtime to revive Twin Peaks
If the new series is just a retelling with new actors I'm outta there. True Detective will be my choice. (Damn you, Nic.)

Re: Showtime to revive Twin Peaks
- I can honestly say I'm still not sure how to respond to this; the event is so long in coming and out of the blue and the subject so much a part of not just my daydreams and personal mythos but indeed my personal makeup that it feels rather unreal; the sort of thing that can make one question the nature of objective reality, start believing in demiurges, and so forth. I suppose I can sympathize now with those Star Wars fanatics when the prequels were first announced, and like that whole debacle, this of course could go either way, but for now I feel cautiously optimistic (blasphemy, I know!) However, as for the matter of having to wait another 2 years for the new season, my feelings can only be summed up by Laura Palmer's Black Lodge doppelganger:

Re: Showtime to revive Twin Peaks
I wonder how they'll deal with Fire Walk With Me.
I guess they'll have moved on from the death of Laura Palmer. |
