Ligotti Opera - "The Passion of Doctor Voke"

Has anyone ever heard of the following opera?
The Passion of Dr. Voke: A Tragic Opera in One Act
Is anyone geographically located so that they might conveniently check out the library text and scan it for TLO? I will attempt to track down the author.

Re: Ligotti Opera - "The Passion of Doctor Voke"

Dr. Bantham, the discovery of the existence of this dissertation in the form of musical drama is truly astounding! The fate shared by Prena and Lamm is a fine example of classic operatic tragedy (although idiosyncratic and unconventional in representation). I'd drive to the "Heart of the Heart of the Country" (Indiana) myself, but I am imprisoned within a forcefield which humans refer to as an invisible fence...

Re: Ligotti Opera - "The Passion of Doctor Voke"

Brian,

I know of this work, I and actually talked with Tom about it some time last year because I was interested in acquiring it. I believe the work was created by Luke Reese, who contacted him and with whom he collaborated. Apparently the opera was never performed. Although I tried to have it delivered to the library at the University of Connecticut, the piece was not allowed to be taken out of the university library that the Uconn library was to borrow it from, so I never got a chance to see it. According to Tom, if I remember correctly, there are very few copies of it. I don't know if that helps at all, but I thought I'd add my 2 pennies worth. I think it might be pretty difficult to track down.

Thanks for the interesting background information! I have a new target for my collection, it seems. Any additional leads would be appreciated. Is there a TLO member located in the Indianapolis area?

I'm not close to Indianapolis, but I'm interested in the conclusion to this chase. With the Doctor on the hunt, I'm sure we'll all be hearing more about this rara avis soon.

Re: Ligotti Opera - "The Passion of Doctor Voke"

I am hesitant to revive this old thread, but it would be interesting to know if anyone ever tracked down a copy of this opera? I was reminded of it today when it came up under Ligotti on Google Books. Of course, there were no sellers offering a copy. Still, I would be very interested to learn how closely this work mirrors the story...
