Re: Twin Peaks - Series 3
I believe my sardonic intent was obvious. That was the least commercial piece of television I have ever seen.

Re: Twin Peaks - Series 3
The latest episode is one of the finest slices of Peaks yet, up there with the pilot, S2 finale and movie. I feel as in awe as if I were present for the initial airing of the Prisoner finale. I hope the rest of the 'golden age of TV drama' personnel are taking notes and that this is the start of a great leap forward for the woefully linear medium.

Re: Twin Peaks - Series 3
Magnificent stuff. I wonder if the opening scenes of episode 7 were a foreshadowing of fan reaction to episode 8: "What's going on?" "I don't know where I am!" "WHAT???" "I think I'm high!" I'm not so sure about this. Lynch is a bona fide genius and I think anyone else who tries to do anything as radical as this is going to come a cropper. There's still a fair amount of good stuff around (like Better Call Saul) but I always knew this series of Twin Peaks would be on another planet to the rest of television.

Re: Twin Peaks - Series 3
Robin Davies wrote, "I watched The Prisoner on its initial screening in 1967 but I was only nine and most of it flew over my head. "
I know exactly how you felt, as I myself was also nine years old when I watched it in 1967! It was over my head but I knew instinctively that there was something very different and very special there. My appreciation only deepened with repeated viewings when older, (and I had learned the meaning of the word, "subversive"). It remained my favorite show of all time until Twin Peaks.

Nor the director, I only have one of his films. The bigger experience for Fire Walk With Me would be the 3.5 hour version, incorporating deleted scenes in a more of less coherent order. Re: Twin Peaks - Series 3
I was surprised to read this as it's still available here in the UK. I would strongly recommend you get Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery which has both series plus the movie plus The Missing Pieces plus many other extras. The Missing Pieces are fascinating but I prefer them as extras, not edited back into the movie.

Re: Twin Peaks - Series 3
Fire Walk with Me is essential.
I was reading Arthur Machen's Hieroglyphics a few weeks ago, and in it he remarked upon the mystical significance of the sensory indulgence in food and drink in literature. It made me wonder what he would have thought of Twin Peaks. |

Re: Twin Peaks - Series 3
The sinister rhyme- there's something devilishly enchanting about it-
The part about the horse probably refers to the strange white horse that appears before BOB's murders- it is white externally, and it harbors some darkness beneath its peculiar, pale surface.
