Apartment Buildings in Horror Fiction

I'm currently reading "The Procession of the Black Sloth" by Laird Barron and I'm at the part in the story where there's strange stuff going on in an apartment building.

That got me to thinking about apartment buildings in horror/strange/weird fiction. One is _The Tenant_ by Roland Topor. This novel was adapted into a movie by Roman Polanski, who also made two other apartment movies: Repulsion (1965) and Rosemary's Baby (1968).

Mark Samuels wrote, I think, at least two short stories that take place in an apartment building. I can't recall the titles offhand, most of my books are in storage.

I would be interested in seeing other examples of apartment buildings in horror/strange/weird fiction. I have a working hypothesis that apartment buildings and horror fiction usually make a good combination. Perhaps this could inspire new stories.

Re: Apartment Buildings in Horror Fiction

Is JG Ballard's "High Rise" too obvious a suggestion?

If movies also count, there are a lot more titles to choose from: eg, They Came from Within (Cronenberg), REC (that terrific Spanish found-footage number--but steer clear of the sequels), Demons 2,etc.
