Re: New Horror Books

"Throughout Unseaming, reality is usually in bad shape right from the start-and from there things proceed to go downhill. Such is the general background and trajectory of life in Mike Allen's fictional world. More could be said, of course, but there's one thing that I feel especially urged to say: these stories are fun. Not "good" fun, and certainly not "good clean" fun. They are too unnerving for those modifiers, too serious, like laughter in the dark-unnerving, serious laughter that leads you through Mr. Allen's funhouse. The reality in there is also in bad shape, deliberately so, just for the seriously unnerving fun of it. The prose is poetic, except it's nonsense poetry, the poetry of deteriorating realities, intermingling realities, realities without Reality. And all the while that unnerving, serious laughter keeps getting louder and louder. Are we having fun yet?"

Re: New Horror Books

I got this over at Matt's site The Teeming Brain. Lovecraft fans and bibliophiles should like this one.

It was difficult for me to find more info at PS Publishing, but if you do an Advanced Google Image Search for "Starry Wisdom Library" it will direct you to some of the pages of art.

Re: New Horror Books

I have just heard from Hippocampus Press in the USA that my new book of stories has gone to the printers.

I had to fill in a 'promotion form' for this book which included a brief summary of what it's about. I wrote:
"A collection of weird stories that often develop in an unusual manner from an original premise. The stories are part of the grand tradition of the ‘weird story’ but they seek to be rather different from most stories of this type. My hope is that these stories simultaneously will be a part of the tradition of the weird story but also help to push the definition forward a little."

Hippocampus Press are really going places, so it is a privilege and an honour for me to be added to their list of authors! Here is a link to the relevant page on their website:

Re: New Horror Books

I agree. Yet perhaps the book is trying to be not about cosmic horror as such, despite the misleading title, and more about specific landscapes of horror? Here is the book description from Amazon:

"From the fictional land of Carcosa that inspired the HBO show True Detective to H. P. Lovecraft’s accursed New England hills, this collection features some of the most legendary landscapes of the cosmic horror genre."

A collection fundamentally about space? a fictive equivalent perhaps to Yi-Fu Tuan's Landscapes of Fear?
